Whats up with HARD level?

I play Hard level and the AI is coming up to my citadel at level 7 and killing me, my allies, plus another fortress, and receiving almost no damge.  I play the level below this and it is boring easy.  Why not make a new level in between or save the BullS**t AI cheating for GOD level??

You probably just aren't familiar with optimization yet.

Try these for your items. Favor- Blood of the fallen.

1) Banded Armor -> 6) Groffling Warplate
1) Scaled Helm -> 5) Plenor Battle Crown
2) Unbreakable Boots
3) Vlemish FaceGuard
4) Nimoth ChestPlate

Try these Citadel upgrades

1) Fortified Structure 1
2) Currency 1
3) Experience 1
4) Save until War Rank 8, then get Priests -> Angels -> Catapultauri all in one go.
5) Giants at war rank 10
6) Increase BlackSmith and Armor as you can

Check out the character guides to get a good demigod killing build.

Hang out by your towers, kill enemy demigods, they always stray to closely.

You will find the AI is a joke once you get used to doing the above.

Great feedback, orion.  I really agree - once you get more experienced at taking out the ai, I think you'll agree that its not all that difficult to take out 2 or 3 nightmare ai's solo.  I think if you follow orion's advice you'll find that you are halfway there.  Then just learn when to run in battles, when to attack, etc.  The ai is pretty weak once you get used to its patterns.

I've only played against the computer once against an easy AI and then hopped right into online play.

But during those times, everyone was bad, so if you had a brain you had the advantage.

No one thinks you're special Ninki. Stop trying to brag about a game you don't even play anymore.

Eh, there's nothing to brag about.

In fact, I don't even think I can beat hard AI.

lol that would be really hard and pretty much impossbile, since the ai runs into all your towers and dies :D

OP is correct that the AI ought to be smarter rather than just get bonuses.

Better AI has been sorely needed in this game for years, both to make SP more interesting (and better train people for MP) and to make AI-controlled teammates competent when people rage quit or get mysteriously dc'ed.

I wouldn't have expected such poor AI coming from the people that made galactic civilizations.  While that AI wasn't perfect either, the AI sophistication to CPU time ratio was quite remarkable.

It's unfortunate.

Side note - Stardock didn't design the AI.  That was GPG.  SD=publisher.  GPG=game design (with feedback from SD).  Completely agree that AI is bad though and wish SD had designed the AI.  It's somewhat apparent that not much thought went into the AI and it certainly wasn't polished after the release (read: 0 ai updates since launch).  The mod called skirmish AI makes the AI MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better.  Not quite challenging for really seasoned players, but so much better than the standard.

This would be great also... the one change we got to this is the ability to make the lousy AI pay out little gold and XP when it dies.  That falls into the better than nothing category, but EVERY MP game I play in has High AI HP and Low AI Gold/XP.  We all use that.  They at least tried to do something for us there... but making the ai more intelligent was never a priority outside of pathing... and even that didn't happen.
