Donating to a few more causes
I'm still trying to keep up some good habits (assuming I've really started them) and one of those habits is making donations to charities that my wife had supported, or that I support, even if I have to work a little at setting aside the money that I'll be donating away. Given a choice between wasting money buying junk food somewhere or donating a few extra dollars to a charity that I'm pretty confident will do good work with the money, I'll give up the wants and try to stick with supporting someone's needs.
One of the charities that I strongly favor is Fisher House. If you don't know of them and the work that they do, see their web presence here: http://www.fisherhouse.org/
I had promised myself that I'd make a donation to them at about this time, and thankfully I think I'm keeping that promise, even beating my original time line for that one.
Over the next few weeks, I hope to remember to also make a donation to MDA (Jerry's kids). Much like Fisher House, it is a charity I'd like to see put out of business in the future simply because there's no longer a need for it. Unfortunately, I doubt that will be the case for many years, but I know that in the last few decades MDA's research has helped to make significant progress on many fronts, but there's still a very long way to go.
I'm not here to brag about the donations I've been making, or tell anyone that they should or shouldn't make donations to any specific organizations. I would encourage anyone that has the means, or can have the means, to try to share with others as best they can via whatever charities they may support. Do your research, know for sure that the organizations you want to support are giving the money and donations where they say they are, and if not find another charity that does. Other than that, hopefully the donations we all make will make a difference for the better.
