Model Request List for 3D Artists

Model Request List for 3D Artists

Help!!! LoL

Hello my fellow Modders and friends,

As I'm sure you'd all like to know, work on the Dragonlance Mod is progressing slowly but surely. I've been plugging away on the world map and some custom tiles (though the tile editor keeps crashing on me). Realistically I'm still at least a month or two away from a 1.0 release, maybe longer if I can't find the models I need. As I've mentioned before, 3D Modeling is Not one of my strong suits. Skins, Textures, Colors, I can handle all those and even apply those to current models in game. Making decent looking New Models is somewhat beyond me though. As such I thought I would come to my fellow Modders for help. I also figure if others have Model Requests we could keep all the requests in one thread like a "Order Form" where we can request Models and when those Models are made the requests can be filled and posted in this thread.

Here are the Models I currently need. Some of these may not be needed after release but there's no way to know for sure until we have the full release and see what goodies they've been holding back from us for the full game.

Draconians: In Dragonlance there is a race called "Draconians". They are an intelligent race though they are not natural. They were made by magic and twisting the eggs of Dragons into a Dragon/Man hybrid. They have the head, wings, and tails of a Dragon with the body shape of a man. Their skin is scaly.

Minotaurs: In Dragonlance Minotaurs are a intelligent race which mainly inhabit the island nations of Mithas and Kothas. Minotaurs have a Human Body with the Head of a Bull.

Elves: In all honesty this one shouldn't be that hard. All that really needs to be done is to have pointy ears places on a standard human model.

Dwarves: Short, stocky, humans.

Kender/Halflings: Short, skinny, child-like, humans. I wonder if there will be models of children in the full game? We have all kinds of civilians walking around the cities so it would make sense that kids would be running around as well. If so I can use their model for Kender.

If anyone else has any Model Requests by all means please place them in this thread. Since I consider Kyogre to be in charge of keeping all the modding info in order maybe he will be so kind as to keep track of these as well.

I've been playing around with Blender textures some more, and damn I've been learning things every time I start it up. Added some basic armor to the poor naked draconian and some texture (thats pretty bad at it) while trying to learn how to do proper UV mapping and stuff. Heres what it looks like so far xD.

Some chain mail armor with an attempt at leather wrist straps xD. I tacked the leather on to the pants too cuz i was tired lol. The shin guards still need a material xD.

That's awesome stuff man. I saw the message you left when I woke up. I passed out early last night. Hit me up this afternoon and we'll see what he looks like with a basic skin. Then you can shoot me the UV's for the armor and I can skin thhose as well. Great work bro :)

There are a lot of models available over at NWVault that should be able to be ported over.

Great pic and source link for materials, thank you my friend.

My pleasure.  Neverwinter Nights (I & II) really had legendary communicty contributions and support, from 3d modelling to scripting and everything in between.  I am not sure what it would take to port everything from NWN to Elemental, but there is so much high quality stuff there, it's worth someone that is more knowledgeable than I am to investigate it.

FYI, Raven, I would expect that type of community support for Elemental.  There is a LOT of talent out there.  The modding community will thrive, particularly if there is a robust community site like NWVault to support the community.

Well, my dwarf is far from finished, and Blender is sometimes a mystery to me, but by God, the hair physics system is slowly making sense to me.  Here is my dwarf with a half-assed hammer, shield, belt, and shoulder gear (spikes?).  Far from finished but at least hair is one less thing to try to mess with.

Wow, very nice my friend :) . I'm sorry I wasn't on Yahoo tonight to see this earlier. I got caught up with a bunch of family stuff here and working on the skin. I definitely need to chat with you and Civ over the weekend. We've had a few offers for Python coders wanting to help out on the DL Mod so we need to incorporate them into our group on Yahoo and catch them up to speed.

The beard looks really awesome man, well done there especially :). Unfortunately I'm not sure if/how that will look in game. I don't think any of the standard Elemental models have hair like that and honestly I'm not even sure if it could be displayed in game like that. I guess we'll find out though when Stardock lets us get our hands on those converter plug-ins for the modeling programs. Also we need to be on the lookout for an Animator as I'm thinking the Minotaur and Dwarves and Kender will need custom animations. EVen though they could use standard human animations their size might make it so those animation packs aren't compatible. The Draconian could use some custom flapping animations too. Even though they can't "Fly" it would useful for gliding and floating and stuff to have their wings flap.

That dwarf does look awesome.  I'm hopeful that the models you guys develop for Dragonlance will be available for me (and others) to utilize in other games/mods. I'm eager to build a campaign around a personal setting that I have but alas I'm not a 3d Modeler.

They will be. We'll be releasing Model, Skin, Map, and Character Packages along with and before the Mod's release. This project is going to take a while to do as we're waiting on Stardock for the Plugins or whatever we'll need to get our models from Blender into the game, then they'll have to be animated while I'm working on all the skin variations.

We'll be releasing them though as "Stand Alones", no worries ;)

Thanks Storm.  Raven, yeah, I understand.  The beard is actually something for me personally rather than the mod, to be honest.  I can tell ya right now that the poly count goes through the roof when those particle effects are thrown in.  Although, it "looks" a ton better than a big glob of mesh is just shaped on there like I had it, although that is most likely what is gonna happen anyway for you to skin.  Easier too, by far.  But, at least I figured (sort of) how to grow hair off the mesh without having to "cheat".  I was so proud of myself of figuring it out.

Just to throw this out there early...I'm also looking for Modern and Sci-Fi content. Modeling is not one of the things that I can do well, like many others, so many of the mod ideas I have will force me  to rely on the kindness and talent of others.

I will, eventually, be looking for a variety of Modern and Sci-Fi weapons, equipment, clothes, armor, ships, vehicles, and aliens. If anyone is interested in non-Fantasy work, I'd definitely love to start talking ideas.

A little too S&M-ish?

You might want to think about getting rid of the spikes on the belly part of the chest piece. Aside from that though the armor looks pretty sweet :), I'm liking it. Great job brother.

Hopefully, the beginning of a knight.  Needs lots more work, but htis is sort of what I had in mind.

A very good start brother. I think though with the "Human" Knight characters in game we'll just be changing the armors. We can use the regular humans they have for a lot of things with just some minor skin tweaks.

I agree with all of these! One thing i was dissapointed with on release was that all races are basically just humans, theres not enough fantasy here.

I want dwarves, fairies, orcs and draconians. Making your own custom faction and changing the skin color helps, but not enough :P

I've been playing around some more with Blender, this time I've been working on animation and I gotta say it gave me a damn headache to rig this thing. But I'm glad because I think I understand now since I had to redo the damn thing 3 times ughhhh.

Anyways I've finally started doing posing and heres a preview of how the draconian looks in action. Keep in mind this is my first attempt at this so dont expect too much xD.

Idk how to embed a video from Dropbox, or if its even possible so heres the link for whoever is interested :P:

If you saw the vid you can see some kinks that need fixing, and I'm trying to figure out what to do to fix xD. Till next time!

That looks seriously Awesome Civ!!! Well done brother. With as fast as you're picking up animations I don't think we'll have any problems animating units for the mod :) Well done, man.

Are you kidding?  That is a dwarf from Dwarf Fartress.... my retro version of Dwarf Fortress..... trust me, ya don't wanna get stuck in an underground cavern with the dwarves when they been eatin' beans.

Okay, Raven.... here is a hydra.  Now, don't read into anything, it is nowhere near finished.  The part where the neck(s) meet the body needs fixing.  Basically, I will cut parts off where the necks join and the front of the body and smoosh into one another, so you don't get that real thin body part- basically they need to be coming out of the body.  In any case the main goal here was getting the f$%^'ing normals to look right.  I had to go through the entire body and flip all the normals face by face.  PAIN IN THE ASS!  Also my other goal was just having 5 heads attached so that all I have to do now is resize, reshape, cut, mince, match, tear, rip , chainsaw, hack, slash, rape, pillage, er, wait.... I mean change the body a bit.

HYDRA_BETTER

Underside, here- those head/neck areas will be coming from the body, so that thin part that comes out will be cut out.

Admiral, man....that...looks....AWESOME!!!!

Hail Takhisis, Dark Goddess of Dragons!!!!

If that's still under construction I can't wait to see what it looks like when you get it finished and I get it skinned. I can see a "few" little tweaks but we talked about that already. It's coming along seriously well man, great job. :)

The Hydra looks nice, but I'd prefer a version with 7 heads and without wings.
