Puppy: 1, Humans: 0? Not really, but...

Thus far life with the puppy has been ok, though she certainly has a mind (and schedule) of her own when it comes to doing her business...  Daughter tried to get her to go several times yesterday evening and she just wouldn't do it.  Instead she took advantage of her time outdoors to roll and frolick in the grass in the yard.  On the other hand, this morning when we woke up to her whimpering we found that she'd relieved herself in her (relatively large) pen and then of course she proceeded to excitedly bounce around and leave a pool of water behind as she straddled the edge of the wee pad that I put on the floor before she came out.

For a small dog she seems to output plenty of liquid though my daughter seemed to be of the opinion that she isn't taking that much water in, she apparently has been lapping up more than my daughter realizes.

Thankfully, as mentioned yesterday, she's been flushing the roundworms from her system and getting back to a more healthy digestive system when it comes to solid materials.  Where she had been displaying the classic signs (bloated belly, runny solid waste, etc.) of parasite infection, she seems to be getting back to producing more solid waste and the bloating seems to be going away leaving a more healthy looking puppy behind.

She still wants to run and play a lot.  I joked with a co-worker that I probably should get a dog "run" (long metal/wire stretched between two points that a leash is attached to so the dog can run within the distance of that area and move around laterally up to the length of the leash.  If the dog were bigger and could easily deal with one of the invisible fence type collars, I'd probably go that route just to get her trained to her space.  Instead, I'll probably just wind up getting one of the pet fences that you can buy from one of the pet superstores and set her up a playpen in the yard that she can stay within.

I worry about having the dog out in the yard too long anyway because if she were to escape and run into the roadway in front of my home at the wrong time one of the knuckleheads that drives through the neighborhood too quickly might fail to stop in time and leave my daughter and I fretting over the loss of our new pet.

In other news the heatwave that had broken for a little while seems to be about to return.  It's a shame as I was really enjoying the milder temperatures and lowered humidity.  Supposedly the weekend weather will be better, with the rest of the work week being hotter and more humid.  Bleh.  My electric bill could sure use the break. :/

I guess that's it for now.  I wish everyone a great day, until next time!

Check the Toilets

heheheh, way too small to jump up high enough to get into those thankfully.

We've been keeping her water dish well stocked, it just (apparently) holds more than my daughter realized, as does the puppy :)

as does the puppy

Yes, a miracle of modern science how much a small pet can hold until released! ;)
