StarCraft 2: Clan Stardock

StarCraft 2: Clan Stardock

Any interest in making a StarCraft 2 clan? Is it even possible? I could see no better clan than one then one that could be formed here.

I believe he already has my code, it's on the first page.

A zerg strat I learned watching a replay of an "Insane" AI vs. me was to build a spare hatchery just below the main (with no drones collecting resources, only to spawn larva) and crank out roaches. I lost in under 10 minutes while still building my creep highway to my second hatchery. Solid strat.

If you want to learn Zerg, I'm afraid I'm not the person to help you :P

Toss on the other hand.... :')

So many pretty warp fields

You can accomplish the same thing cheaper if you just build a Queen at your main to spawn 4 larva every 40 seconds. If you're not mining out of the second hatchery anyway. In addition the queens can drop creep tumors that let you spread the creep everywhere :)

Sweet! finally got my Diamond promotion!

Diamond Promotion

I know, as they say, that the league's don't mean much yet as there are a lot of new players and it is still tuning itself, but I wanted to enjoy being in the highest of the leagues while I can.

Posted this in other clan forum aswell.....but this one still seems to be on topic so ill post here too. Congrats on the diamond promo Xtropy.....

...........

Started playing about a week ago. Never played an RTS online before and dominated my 5 practive league games. I think i have a good grasp on RTS's but not having played online before hurt me in the placement matches going 3-2.

I go put into bronze :( ....currently sitting at 30 - 22 record. Does anyone know what you need to do to go up a level??? My longest win streak is 8. I play mainly protoss/terran.

It was a good insight into multiplatyer RTS's.....but now that iv got my head around it and starting to dominate Im curious how long and whats needed to get up to silver.

Also, is there a big step change in the quality of players from one league to the next.

Also im on the Aussie servers if anyone is interested in 2v2 3v3 etc. Havnt played any of them as I none of my mates are RTS gamers.

Character Name: Whindog

CC: TBA

Aussie server?  Is that South East Asia region?  Hate the region lock, but I have to admit, it probably exists because of suckers like me;  I'm probably going to buy a second account at some point to play with my European friends....though not when it costs $60!

Sounds like you should get promoted soon, it could actually be that you haven't lost enough since you've started to dominate.  I've heard that you have to lose to some extent to get promoted;  there are still some top (pro-gamer level) players toiling in Platinum with ridiculous won-loss ratios.  Though, do you know league of the players you've been beating?  Do you know the league of the players you're still losing to?  If you're beating up on other bronze players, but losing to silver/gold players, the system might consider you still bronze, albeit amongst the best of them.  In my case, I didn't get promoted until I started regularly beating Diamond players.

If you're 30:22 in bronze, you'd be 10:42 in Plat and 2:50 in Diamond. Higher league players are much more aggressive, they punish you for not scouting everything and will abuse every weak point of your defense. Also, they can squeeze 150% of what you can do with a set of units thanks to their micro. In Bronze, everyone kinda bunkers up and makes an army and walks out. If a Diamond player sees a turtle, he has a zillion tricks at hand to punish you for it. If he's lazy, he will fast expand and when you walk out with a 100 supply army, he'll throw 160 supply at you, GG.

Also, as xtropy said, you have to be regularly beating players in the higher league to get promoted. To check the league of the guy, go to match history, click on a given match, click on your opponent's name and select "view profile". You might also judge his league by him being favored, although that's somewhat unclear - when I got placed in plat with 5:0 stats, I was pitted against a diamond player and I was favored.

Aussie server? Is that South East Asia region

I live in Indoneisa and I think I am in Asia but I will have to check on it,

Oh? Newbie question:    Where do I check to see what server I am on?

I don't actually know the official way of checking out your region, but if you go to sc2ranks.com and look up yourself it should tell you what region you're in.

There are 7 regions:

Russia

Taiwan

SE Asia

Europe

Korea

North America

Latin America

So it's possible you're on Korea, Taiwan, or South East Asia I suppose.... but my guess is SE Asia.

Also, is there a big step change in the quality of players from one league to the next.

I was taking a break from playing competitively tonight.   I was playing with my guest account and using absurd strategies so I'd stay in the lower leagues just to see the caliber of players.  Playing primarily bronze through gold, the common theme is that my opponents never had much stuff.  I wasn't trying to win, in fact I was just messing around with various units that I don't practice with often enough, but I could go the whole game and take every expansion on the map while the bronze/silver/gold player was still confined to his base (occasionally he'd take his natural expansion).

I think that the key to getting to at least Platinum is just to always build workers, and to always have the production capacity to meet your income.  Try not to bank large quantities of resources (any money in the bank is money that could be contributing to your army), and try not to cut worker production.  If you do all that, you can just attack-move into your opponents base and likely win without any micro.  If your money gets high, build lots of Barracks/Factories/Starports, or Warpgates, Robos, Stargates (Zerg is a little trickier).

That's about all you need to do to crush players up to Gold level.  Many platinum players will at least have rehearsed build orders and rehearsed timing pushes, so it's a little trickier, but you don't really need to have good micro, or anything like that, until you're at least Diamond, if not mid-high diamond.

Ok so thankyou all for your replies.....so I was beating silver players alot and only ever lost to silver. Then I dominated a gold league guy. Dominated!!! Void ray rush into Immortal zealot stalker pheonix. GOt promoted after that one, now continuing to dominate in silver, so hopefully i can get into gold soon. Im on the SEA server, said aussie cause i figured most of you are in the states. So it seemed easier. lol. Not used to tlking with ppl that actually know what they are tlking about with this stuff.

This was my first MP experiance in RTS's. My macro and economy is always suprioor to my opponent, I originally struggled with defending the initial rush.....The AI doesnt rush overly well, so what i initally thought was good........wasnt definetly wasnt it was..>SO BAD looking back.. But once i got that down im able to churn out workers. Get down a 2nd or 3rd expo whilst harasing to ensure they stay safe. Did strugle against the turtlers @ first especailly terran, but that where my immortal build came from.

I find that in these lower leagues not alot of ppl have a plan B. If the initial rush doesnt work they are lost. I was in that boat too until i developed a good transition. And learning to scout effetivly. Its one thing sending a drone in after 2-3 min but findin out whats going on at 15-20 min is a diff story.

Anyways, got promoted  and continuing to develop and adapt to certain situations.  Micro needs work to match it with the good players but that will develop with more games under my belt. ATM my good macro gets me more stuff than my opponents and allows me to get out of tight spots.

I know im far from good. But working on it, and enjoying doing so. I didnt play SC alot was more into TA back in the day. But definetly loveing the old school RTS formula.

Thanks for all your tips, nice to get onfimation that what im trying to do is what higher level guys are doing to. Workers, expo & constant building production #1 priority for me anyways right now.

Now to carry on with my strive for continuous improvment.
