Mod Week Begins

This week, as time permits, I’m going to start documenting all the files and mods for players.

If the community wants to set up a Wiki or something to put this stuff together in, that would be great.

Here’s my first tip because it’s been driving me crazy:

In RangedAttackspells.xml you can change the speed of the arrow.  Right now, it’s crazy slow and it’s absolutely maddening.

Excellent! It might also be helpful to put these posts in the modding section of the forums and sticky them.

FYI for those like me who did not know... lower number for example speed of 50 is faster.

you can use bow attacks as a strategic attack?  on the stategic map? 

That sounds disappointing and a blow to tactical battles; I would hope that when two armies meet for a tactical battle that they begin out of each others range.  If not it ofcourse begs the question,'what were the armies and archers doing while the enemy marched into range?'

Thanks for continued efforts to support the modding community.  I am considering actually trying to learn this stuff so I can participate.  If the in game editors are good enough I will probably give up on that thought.

Frogboy, I have an small issue! I was working on a quest and made my own tile to start it. In XMLs, I used the Inn01 template from the Level1_Quest_Locations XML and basically just changed the name/description. However, in the map editor my tile does not show up in the "notable locations" category with the other quest tile, but in some random one that lists basically everything.

Furthermore, when I place the tile on the map, the quest I made (using a combination of the current warehouse and rat quests) that's set to have my tile as its location preference does not automatically attach itself to the tile when I run the custom map in game. In the map editor, I can go to the quest listing and manually assign the quest to the tile. This works okay, and the quest is functional, but when I hover over the tile in-game it doesn't have the same tooltip as all the other quest locations, where it lists your level and the quest hut level.

So, I have a few questions if you don't mind:

1) Is quest attachment to the tile supposed to be automatic?

2) How do I get the your level/hut level tooltip to display?

3) Why doesn't my tile show up along with the other quest hut tiles in the map editor?

It's gotta be something obvious I'm missing.. it'd be awesome if you could point out the relevant XML tags in the files that handle these. I can get the quest functional, but can't get it into the game as cleanly as the current ones - and I haven't tried a random map to see if it uses my tile yet.

Tbh, I'd hold off on wiki until release since some stuff is probably still subject to change.

I think the modding will really strengthen this game with time.  Will it be possible for modding to allow creatures to do more than just wandering?

Try switching your options to "flatten forum catergories." I have problems if I have it unflattened, but when it's flattened everything is back to normal. I suspect the problems are due to the new facelift of the Elemental website.

we are not sure what all the kinds of Values do or where they all are.

couldn't find anything in the Core files about EnvironmentTerrainType it was either Environment or TerrainType

the default was either 1 or 2 which is ever for Empire  wanted an Arctic environment.

It is outdated because I can't get any help on it and I haven't had much time myself to update it. I've requested people on the forums help, but nobody ever seems to get past creating an account. There has been a bit of activity lately, so that's good, and if people want to put mod information on there that'd be great. I'm going to work on updating it as I have time, but probably only if others seem interested in working on it too. Wikis only work if there's contribution from a larger community. One guy can't do it, unless he's fanatically devoted and I'm not.

Just to clarify I wasn't blaming you or anything Sycraft, I understand it takes a lot of people to manage all the available info and appreciate your effort to get it up and going. What's been done on the page so far seems pretty good to me but I mentioned its outdated because I wasn't sure if someone else started a new one or something.

On another note I edited a few things here and there but I've never actually worked on a wiki like this before so I was kinda lost on getting around the site xD. I also had a question, can the URL be changed to Elemental War of magic instead of Elemental Beta when the game comes out? Or will a new page be have to be made?
