Two hands, two swords.

Out of curiosity, I made this little test mod for dual wielding.

It's based in adding a couple of long swords to the Sovereign creation screen. One of them is for the right hand and is considered weapon. The second goes in the left hand and is considered defense (it adds to the attack though). The blades are not balanced as it was not the purpose of the test, the same as having a defense item (even if shaped as sword... and that gives attack score) in an XML about Weapons. :P

The second blade doesn't get coloured like the principal one (Metal doesn't seem to affect it and remains blacky). Animations? Suuuuure. When Stardock... you know.

Add the file to your My Games/Elemental/Items and make sure that you have checked the option to use Mods.

I'll have to check this more seriously later but it's nice to see how easy it can be. BUt as I made it right now, it has some "problems". Weapons in the default customization screen are also basic weapons that require no investigation and can be equipped right away by units (that includes the AI ones... nearly one slashing my Sovereign). Not a problem per se if the equipment is balanced. What is a problem is that the secondary sword appears as hand accesory and if it's the only item there, once you equip it, you can only remove it by clicking the Clear button.  :-"

Actually ... the sword in your off-hand is usually better for blocking (so it could still add defense :P )

Perhaps N is its attack power on your main hand ... and if in your off-hand a Sword gives N/2 attack and N/2 defense?

perhaps it only gives the N/2 attack until you learn a "Duel Sword feat" that gives you the N/2 defense as well?

There is a bit of both. The secondary weapon (once seriously done, this doesn't count) should add a little of attack and a little of defense (depending of type of weapon, I suppose). Different dual blade techniques should then modify those bonuses: an offensive dual blade techinique would increase attack with it and reduce its defense; a defensive dual blade technique would do the opposite.

Swords should really be a defense/offense increasing weapon anyway.  Devs are always running around giving things like flails defense reductions instead. :(

Heh ... so true.

But thats what Sword-Parry mechanics are for :p

Like giving Axes and Flails 0 Parry

Large Swords small Parry values

Medium Sized Swords High Parry Values

Small Swords medium parry values

and Shields medium-> high parry values ....

Those Sword n Buckler guys will have high parry!! :p

But seriously ... a Tower Shield should have Very HIGH Defense, low parry, and high ranged parry

while a small shield like a buckler would have low defense, medium-> high parry, and low ranged parry
