On the plus side...
Since the new pup has been here my son has decided that his (supposed) allergies and/or the dog's whimpering during the late night hours are too much to take so he's moved out. Back over to my in-laws, where he'd previously been staying some of the time so he could help keep an eye on them (especially necessary given their advancing ages and failing health). Last time he tried doing that he found that he couldn't deal with the few rules that they imposed upon him and he also found himself incredibly annoyed at the fact that they wake up much earlier than he does and their home tends to pass noises from upstairs to the downstairs area far too well.
He's since, I hope, resigned himself to understanding that there are some prices associated with living with his grandparents, and he's found some counters to the noise issues (a white noise machine he can use while sleeping). The financial issues related to the use of the phone (my father-in-law was one of the last people in the country to switch to an unlimited phone plan so he didn't have to pay outrageous long distance charges) and other similar things should no longer be a problem either.
So, on the plus side, my son is apparently moving himself out of the house since he just can't live with the dog during it's puppy stage.
Someone remind me again, isn't there supposed to be a negative side to this? ![]()
Seriously, I wish him well, and will always have a place for him at my home, but at the same time my son is old enough to need to be out on his own somewhat. He had that luxury before, with a few simple rules, and he blew it badly. Hopefully he's matured and learned from his past experience. Hopefully my in-laws will be patient with him, and hopefully he'll get himself motivated to get on with his education (something his grandparents and I both want him to do). If so, then this is all upside. If not, then he'll flounder a bit as he tries to figure out what to do with himself up to the point that he irritates his grandparents and winds up out on his tail. At least in the interim he had been doing some research on housing prices at various areas and that should help him consider all the more the bargain that he gets at his grandparent's house.
