Assorted thoughts

First, before I forget to comment more on this, I note that in today's print edition of The Washington Post there's yet another article about problems at Arlington Cemetery.  That would be ARLINGTON, freakin', NATIONAL, CEMETERY.  A place that should be hallowed and respected, but which apparently has had no end of political infighting and stupid mistakes which have resulted in a complete and total lack of respect to the dead and families of the dead that are buried there.  Absolutely disgusting.  If you want more info on the issue, go visit The Washington Post's website or google on Arlington Cemetery problems and see what I'm referring to.

On a happier front, I took my daughter on a bit of a road trip yesterday, out beyond most civilization, into farm country, where she picked up a new pup from a breeder.  A little Pomeranian pup.  Fur ball.  While my son is allergic to cats, he seems to be fairly tolerant of dogs and this little furry creature seems to be about as close to a cat as my daughter might hope to have until her brother has moved out on his own.  I suspect at some point in the future my daughter may have a house full of cats, but that won't happen soon.  For now her new little friend will have to do.  Cute little critter that seems to have a great disposition and quiet personality.

Temps outside are much more reasonable today.  Still higher temps, but much less humid and much more comfortable compared to the last week or so.  Yay.  Supposed to actually be pretty mild for this coming weekend and that is very encouraging as I have some more outdoor plans for the coming weekend.  Meanwhile I may have outdoor plans tonite as it seems I need to get out and mow my lawn after the grass has picked back from the rains that have hit the lawn over the last week or two.  Of course once I mow that jungle the heatwave and drought will return and the grass will likely turn back into a shade of red and brown that matches the pup's fur. ;)

We have had a few showers, but not enough to make the grass grow.  I have been keeping it at least kind of green by watering.  But I have not mowed most of it (just the part around the potted plants that get run off) since early June.

So what is the pup's name?

So what is the pup's name?

I'm not sure where my daughter got the name from, but she chose Nora as the pup's name.

If I were picking the name, it would have been something like Furball, though given the size of the pup I might have gone with something like Bitsy. :D

Nora sounds good!  It is not some mangled name, nor a very common one.  I suspect she got it from Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist.  My son loved that movie.
