Dealing with an excess of custom opponents

I want the default races back!

Shortly after I got Dark Avatar, I created a large number (7 or 8) of custom opponents, mostly to experiment with the feature. However, this is now causing something of a problem. I like to randomize which races I'm facing, as this both adds to my feeling of immersion and forces me to adapt more then preset opponents would. Unfortunately, whenever I face random AIs, around half of them are custom opponents. I would prefer to mostly play against the stock races, with the custom opponents only an occasional variant. Is there any way I can remove the customs from selection as random opponents (without deleting them)?

The only solution that I found for random was to delete.

You can simply copy the *.customracexml files to another directory and then delete them. I actually have a couple of different "stock" configurations and any time I create a new set all I do is to zip up all the customracexml's files along with the particular prefs.ini file that select them and save them somewhere else and then I can restore a previously zipped up config and off I go. By including the prefs.ini file you don't even have to select the new set of opponents, all your previous game settings are in the prefs.ini file except remember to reset your desired tech speed since that gets reset to normal (at least for MV games).

I was just searching the forums about a possible bug,  when I saw this thread.

I created a custom race (for myself to play as) which appeared in my next metaverse (DA) game (where I played an in-built race) TWICE.  There were 9 random opponents,  TWO were my custom race.  Both had same names etc. (for their homeworld and leader) but were separate AI players.  There was only one such customracexml file in the metaverse directory.

A long time ago,  I had experimentally created some custom races (again for myself to play as) using the in-built races - so those could have sometimes been my customized opponents while appearing to be in-built!

  I will

simply copy the *.customracexml files to another directory and then delete them

...although in the opponent set-up screen,  clicking on a portrait allows a change to what seems to be a random selection of races - I guess you can replace custom races there,  but I prefer to play the game not knowing my opponents until I meet them.

Thanks for the advice, Mumblefratz. This had already occurred to me but I am very leery of copy/pasting any game files unless I know for sure it won't cause problems.

I probably won't bother with the prefs.ini file, though, because I like to change my settings every game; keeps me from getting in a rut.

I do the same thing as Mumble does.  One thing I love about this game is how easy it is to customize.  The ability to move files in and out without concern is a great advantage.
