Star Craft 2 in 2 days!

Is anyone excited yet? The cut scenes look cool but they don't necessarily make a good game!

Blizzard always does awesome CGI. Preordered since the beta access promo and can't wait.

Beta was awesome fun :-), am most excited. The matchmaking etc will hopefully actually get me into multiplayer play this time around too :-), seemed to work pretty well with the beta. Also await the singleplayer campaign eagerly... especially as I'm a Terran player usually :D

I played the crap out of the first one, I had read they were planning on releasing single player campaigns on three different disk. One for each of the races with the Terran being first, the others to follow later, is that still the case?

Yes. Wings of Liberty is the Terran campaign (though I heard rumors that some missions will be playable as Protoss), and there are 2 expansions planned for the campaigns for Zerg and Protoss. Heart of the Swarm (Zerg) is supposed to follow Wings of Liberty.

That said, last I heard the mission count in Wings of Liberty stands nicely at 29 (though not all are required to finish the campaign), so by mission count it's comparable to SC1. Also worth noting that the expansions will be priced as expansions, not full releases.

That is good news, I was afraid when Activision bought them they would turn greedy and charge $150 for the whole lot!

I refuse to buy a 12 year old game for $60 from such an evil company :P

Where'd they announce that?

Saije, you must not be a gamer.

Starcraft ranks up there with Doom for most ground breaking game ever. Name 1 other game that is 12 years old and people still play as much. SC might not be the cash cow that WOW is for Blizzard, but it's longevity is unparalleled in the video gaming world.

All hail SC2 Wings of Liberty!

I'm going to have to pass on Starcraft 2. While I'm a huge Blizzard fan and I did enjoy the original for about a month I still think Company of Heroes is a much much better and funner game. I really like how you can only have 1 account per cd-key as this prevents smurfing which is common in CoH community. I like how they have different leagues for players to play in that reflect their skill level. Combined with no smurfing it makes for a much better experience when playing online in a vs game. Co-op or bot stomps are not nearly as fun in Starcraft 2 as CoH either.

In CoH you have seperate ranks for vs gameplay and bot stomps. This is kind of cool because when you lose a bot stomp you lose rank and the AI is no pushover that's for sure. So while Starcraft 2 has the vs leagues and 1 account restriction, it doesn't have ranked bot stomps which I find a nice alternative to vs play. Blizzard is usually good at improving on an already good concept and making it even better but in this case they just failed to see the larger picture. Not to mention the gameplay is well boring to say the least.

And you must be another mindless zombie for Vivendi, I mean Bobby Kotick... I mean Activision. Wait. No. Blizzard

I was planing on waiting till after Christmas just to see what happens with it plus Elemental will be eating up most of my free time. I have waited 12 years for it so I can wait some more. I was really unhappy to hear that Activision  bought them thinking they would ruin another good game. My cousin worked for Blizzard, but quit soon after their acquisition by Activision. So I lost my in on what they were up to.

Sorry, I've been a gamer since the 70s and I don't really care about SC2.  Why? It's not because I'm not a gamer, it's because I don't care for RTS games.  I find your lack of tolerance amusing.

And yet people keep buying the same shooters over and over and over again. Go figure. :P

There you go Tridus, I have killed more Nazis than there are people on this planet, Yawn! Same for infected dead, and alien infected dead Portal2 holds hope though!

Im a HUGE CoH fan.

one of the few RTS where if you place 5 infantry correctly you can hold off 20 other units.

I played the beta of SC2. And basically i kept seeing spammed units. Basically people just creating 100 of one unit and then invade. It was so dumb. I really want to skip this game out.

and as said i do feel that even thought this game took 12 years and like 4 million dollars to make, its basically StarCraft 1.5. All that money and time just to add 3d graphics.

If it said Total Annihilation 2 I would realllllly be excited  (yes I know about SupCom)

I will have a look at player feedback on this game. Always interesting to watch. The reviewes will say 9.0 no matter how the game turns out. Thats the way it has become in this industry.

Meh, like most of blizzards games in the last ten years, this is overated.

I am sure it will make billions though.

COH is by far superior to this, and I actually am personally sticking to Dawn of war 2. I am one of the people who think that game is breath of fresh air for the genre. Tactics and skill actually matter, you don't need base building to have an in depth rts, and there is always conflict within 30 seconds in that game.

Playing the beta of SC just seemed stale and all down to the spam..

yeah no thanks.

gameplay wise sc2 looks pretty crappy.  I know some people swear by it but ugh.

However their campaign fmvs are pretty impressive - MUCH better than their crappy work in WoW.  Even if they have a standard Foppy Prince for a bad guy.

I was going to wait for the price to come down but after this vid i might just grab it.

Def sticking to DOW2 for RTS-MP though..

Wow good to see not too many people here arent that excited about StarCraft 2.But i would love to see the CG story line.

Like i said i think CoH is pretty much the definition of a strategy game. So much tactics. So thats #1 on my list.

I like DOW2 but only the campaign. Multiplayer feels chaotic and not very tactful.

Its like CoH is football. You line up your guys in a formation have a brief time of extreme action, And line them up again.

DOW2 is more like soccer. Just run around the map, going back and forth. not to mention the the mandatory auto-match is the biggest Piece of Shiit i ever seen in PC gaming. Lv60, 50, 5  VS LV 10, 5, 3.  Who will win?

Then it's not the definition of a strategy game, but the definition of a tactical game. :P Same as DoW 2.

Starcraft is a different beast that applies to different tastes.

Interesting.

"Oh look, it's a thread about StarCraft. Isn't that an RTS game? I bet people would like to know about my dislike of RTS games. I should make a post in a thread about an RTS game about how much I don't really enjoy RTS games. My opinion must be known!"

>_>

Hyperbole aside, I played the SC2 beta extensively. I was kind of disappointed by the lack of unit types. The game also seemed to be faster paced, which is a good thing in some respects but the first game was filled with huge lasting battles and the feeling that I got from the beta was that those simply don't exist anymore. It could take fifteen minutes to build your army and the battle is over in 35 seconds.

That being said, when I do finally get StarCraft 2, it will be for the campaign mode.

I played the beta for a month, and really enjoyed it.

I preordered the game so that I could watch those beautiful blizzard cutscenes as soon as possible.

I like the cinematic and storyline. Therefor I preload the game, haven't buy it yet. Battlenet pricing and transaction on SC2 will be available at 27 *sigh*

I probably going to buy this on my local gamestore instead of digital download.

Please enlighten me on the tactical aspects of pong. I am waiting with baited breath.

I find YOUR lack of tolerance with those who enjoy RTS games alarming. I find your ignorance to the details I presented demeaning and loathsome. And then you end your argument with bashing my intolerance? Puxa!
