it just says new images have been added and a button for take me to my object dock library.

But nothing is in any of the folders and looking for the theme in the appearances dropdown dosnt show the theme.

Changing the ext to zip dosnt work either.

Mike...not sure if it still works this way but....when I once applied one of those .dockzip files it opened a folder which the docks were apparently sent to...what I did then was highlight them all and moved them to another folder of my choosing. Since this Vista thing happened there were new folder locations created and added to OD in your "My Documents" which is really redundant and I deleted them a long time ago.

So...if you encounter this again just highlight and move those docks elsewhere and then delete those folders...or not.

I keep all my docks...tiles...zoomers...whatever...in my "Programs/Stardock/ObjectDock/backgrounds" folder. I keep all the images for my docks in "Programs/Stardock/ObjectDock" in different themed folders....such as clock images in one folder....Xion images in another and so on.

It didnt make any folders at all.

Not in the programs folders or the documents folder.

I can download one of the zipped up backgrounds and it will have folders that I can put where I want but not a dockzip.

This is about as retarded an install method as I have ever seen...plus it dosnt work. X|

What dockzip are you trying? I'd be happy to try it out also. I've had some unzip to bundled images, special images and even into the OD folder itself.o_O

I'm with you Mike. When I make a dock I have everything in it's own folder than place it in the OD folder where it goes. I haven't been able to use a dockzip since vista came out. I was really hoping that when they updated OD they would have found a way to let you save as a dockzip and just have it install to the correct folder. Learned to live with it this way but liked it much better when it use to work. I guess thats why most uploaded docks are just zipped.

Trying to get that one to install but it wont...wont unzip either...which means the work I did on ALL my docks is locked inside.(because letting OD export them was how I was told to do it)

WTF?!

I still have the graphics somewhere but not the config files...and what about the downloaders?Dosnt work for them either does it?

If you need the images PM me your email, the dockzip file opened fine for me.

If you are using 2.0 beta that would be why it did not open, I have 1.9 and 2.0 beta installed.

I appreciate the help...I think I'm just too tired to deal with this anymore...between fighting SKS and WB,Deskscapes cpu killing interface, the website, and now I cant load my own work into OD...I'm beat. :(

Ok Mike...I just downloaded your docks...again...(and if I knew that's what you were looking for I had them here in .zip form)

Anyway...first thing...download your file to a folder with Firefox because it lets you choose your download folder.

Then go to the folder you saved it to.

Click on it and it "should" bring up a window that says "new images have been added to your Objectdock Library" and at the bottom of that window you "should" see "Take me to my Objectdock Library"...click on that.

Then if all is going well you "should" see a folder open up called "Objectdock Library" and in it "should" be 6 folders for backgrounds...images...misc...permissions...Special images and Unsorted downloads...and your KnotVista docks "should" be in the backgrounds folder when you click on it.

You "should" now see your background.ini and images.

Now back out of that and highlight the folder your images are in and send it to either Program/Stardock/Objectdock/backgrounds or any other folder that "you" created.

Now...if you have a folder under "My Documents" called "Stardock" you "should" find a folder in there called "ObjectDock Library" which will have the 6 folders listed above.

You can just delete the "Stardock" folder unless you want it there...if it wasn't there before it was created when you click on the .dockzip file...now your done. ;)

All that to install a dock...fun huh! XD

For future reference Mike. The way I create my docks is...each tabbed dock or zoomer or tile has it's own folder and background.ini.

This is because it's far less confusing looking at one background.ini and the images that go  with it while making adjustments...rather than looking at one folder with tons of images and .ini files in it. Then to create my zip file...(this is using Objectzip)...rightclick "imagename.png"...."add to imagename.png...then once that .zip file is created I can highlight all the folders at once and send them all to that .zip file and then delete the imagename.png and the thumbs.db files.

Now there may be another way to do that but that one works for me. So....if your thoroughly confused now...lose my number... XD

I just dl'd them to my Downloads folder ,from there they unzipped to C:\Users\Wizard\Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library\Backgrounds.

Note:The backgrounds folder, along with the Permissions folder in that location, didn't exist until "un-dockzipping" your backgrounds. All I keep there is the Backed up Themes folder.

However, they didn't appear in OD config. I copied the folder over to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus2\Backgrounds where I keep my backgrounds and Knot Vista is now in the OD Backgrounds list.

Not sure if or how this helps but with my current setup, dockzip is more work to install backgrounds since I have to move the backgrounds anyway plus delete the two unwanted folders it just created. I think that defeats the whole purpose of dockzip, which I'm assuming was to make it easier and less work.

Win7/64 OD 2.0 beta

Edit: WG got there first.     Personally, I'd avoid using dockzip entirely.

Vampothika, that's a regular zip file which I extracted to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus2\Backgrounds and they all appeared in OD config right away. Where did you put the backgrounds?

the problem here is nothing gets created after clicking the dockzip...no folders, no images , nothing.

The dockzips were created back when that was the correct way to do it.

If the crappy prog cant install or package a simple background correctly then I dont need it anymore. There are other dock programs out there.

Its not like I'm some noob,I've done all this before...made docks, used other docks, made icons and calendars etc...

I was familiar with unzipping and moving the backgrounds...been there done that.

Maybe it just dosnt work on Win 7 correctly.

I DO thank you all for assisting, but how its done isnt the problem...it just plain dosnt work.

Its just another symptom in what almost appears to be Stardocks wish to be out of the skinning biz...I run a pretty tight pc...I keep it well maintained and even I have some problem with EVERY Stardock program I use.

Usually nothing too serious or major, just enough to annoy the hell out of you from time to time. But since there isnt any real alternative,we keep praying for improvements.Sometimes we get them, sometimes we dont. :\

So when you click on the .dockzip nothing at all comes up?

And it works for me...on xp...but I never liked having new folders added where I didn't want them so I never used the .dockzip method.

yes,I get the toolwindow...just dosnt actually do anything >_>

Try WinstepExtreme... or, if you're just looking for a Dock program, there's NexusExtreme... personally I'd LOVE to see you skinning WinStep or Nexus.

I did try Nexus...it was fine.I didnt dig into for long tho,I just wasnt docking much at that time.

I only installed OD again because vStyler found a flaw in WB that causes some menus to go blank and OD was one that I could use to test.

Then I figured, well as long as its back on my pc  again, why not just dress it up and see how she looks...waaaaaaah! #:(

I might give Nexus another go someday but for now, anyone that wants to sure has my permission to use any of my graphics to make docks...just let me see them...oh,and link to me or something.haha

Mike...there are plenty docks out there that don't use the .dockzip method but if you come across one that does that you want to use just let me know and we'll get it working for you. ;)

Mike, what version of OD are you using; 1.9x or 2.0? I don't think dockzip will work at all with 2.0.

ObjectDock 1.90 Freeware [April 2007]
-------------------------------------

This program is provided AS-IS.

I understand that I am downloading unsupported
freeware software. That means I will not try
to obtain technical support from Stardock. I also
understand that this program makes no claims
to accurately emulate or represent itself as a
reasonable facsimile of any docks on other
operating systems.

This seems to be my problem...I forgot Stardock sometimes dosnt support certain software.Whether or not something I spent time creating works or not isnt a priority. My fault.I should know better than to create skins for unsupported software.(due to the lack of legacy support)I should have realised the free version was stuck at 1.9 and might not work right on Win7.

Yes WG,I know there are plenty of docks...my concern was for all the ones I made...that now dont work...at least not for me on Win7.

My question is more of...why would Stardock drop handling of their own format?Did I miss the post for OD free not using .dockzip anymore...or is it just on Vista or Win7?

Does this mean we have a library half full of unusable backgrounds?

Sorry for the gripage...I've already had a bad day with WB and SKS.
