Fences requirement for Internet Access

Hello all

Been using Fences for a few month now and it worked great so far. However, recently we made a change to our Proxy and due to that my PC does not have internet access right at startup. Ever since this change, on startup, Fences ist coming up with this error message:

Fence has detected thats it integrity has been compromised. There may be a problem with your Fences Installation. It is recommended that you uninstall and reinstall fences.

After my PC gets Internet Access through our Proxy, I can restart my PC without changing anything on the Fences installation and it works fine again.

Is there any way to change this behavor, so Fences does not require internet access at startup ? It's somewhat a killer for Fence having to start the PC twice every morning.

I already disabled the autoupdate in the options of Fence, so it can't be that Fences trys to check for updates before it starts.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

I am having some issues with Fences Pro that are related to Impulse (the independent software that Stardocks imposes upon Fence Pro buyers in order to download and install Fences Pro).  BUT AS FAR AS YOUR ISSUE MAY RELATE TO THE UPDATE FUNCTION, if you use Fences free version, I don't think the free version is designed to receive automatic updates; therefore, a non-existent feature should not be the cause of your problem.  If you are using Fences Pro, I have been told that Impulse is the mechanism for updating Fences Pro.  If you have Fences Pro installed, you surely have Impulse installed too...and Impulse should also be considered as a potential cause of your issue.  Just a thought.

Hi Aredhel,

Unfortunatly while the problem may have seemed to coincide with the installation of your Proxy, the integrity validation checks are based completely on the integrity of Fences' program files. If Fences EXE/DLL files are not properly signed (which can happen if something else modifies them on disk), this message will show and the program will not function. Fences does not self-update nor does the check-for-updates relate to this integrity-checking mechanism. I recommend trying to reinstall the program.

Hope you're able to get it working,

Hello Jeff

Thanks for answering.

I've been trying to fix this error message. Uninstalled Fences, installed again, deleted it manually after uninstall and so on. At the end it turned out, that this integrity error message shows up, as long I do not have internet access. As soon the proxy got my auth and lets me into the internet, Fences works as it used to. I don't have to restart the PC. It's enough to go into the configuration and check the box "Activate Fences" again.

Now I completely disabled the proxy again and Fences works perfect again. As much as I believe you that the integrity validation is based completely on the program files, as much I'm sure that this check fails due to the lack of internet access.

So, yes it works again, but only with a workaround, the problem is not fixed.

Regards.

Aredhel,

You should not need internet to run Fences after first activation.  Are you saying after first activation it still fails with no internet access?
