Obviously this is why Egypt doesn't want Gaza.
But it would be good for Israel to talk about giving back Gaza (and the West-Bank) ALL THE TIME in order to make those who accuse Israel of "imperialism" and those who pretend to remember a country named "Palestine" look like complete fools in the eyes of the uninterested.
Mr Kara, like many Israelis, Arab and Jew alike, is just sick and tired of having this problem.
Israel should work out a deal with the UN similar to what they did in southern Lebanon but with an obligation for the UN to pay Israel for each rocket that UN peace keepers didn't stop. The UN should then take over the blockade and allow whatever goods they want into Gaza and Israel could close the borders for good. (In fact, so could Egypt.)
The demand for Egypt to take Gaza back would be propaganda, since Egypt doesn't want it. But a UN-controlled Gaza _AND_ a treaty that makes the UN pay for each attack originating from its (Gaza) territory would work. The UN could then treat the precious Palestinians with as much luxury goods as they think they deserve. And if Hamas continues the war, Israel would make 300 million dollars per year from the UN.
Israel should simply focus on the "1967 borders" (which never existed) and make it clear that Jerusalem was never a part of a planned Arab state and indeed was supposed to be an international zone until a vote in (Jewish-majority) Jerusalem would decide whether Jerusalem would become part of an Arab state or part of Israel.
That was the right-wing version.
Here's the left-wing version:
Obviously Egypt supports independence for the Palestinian nation. That's why they don't want Gaza back.
But Israel could return Gaza to Egypt, a state friendly towards the poor oppressed Palestinians, and the West-Bank to Jordan, a country that knows how to behave towards the Palestinians and certainly doesn't kill the same number of Palestinians as Israel did. The Israeli imperialists [I just realise that I cannot find a way to describe how Israel's policies are imperialism like a left-winger would]... And we can start rebuilding Palestine.
Mr Kara, like many dirty Jews^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^HZionists living in the apartheid state that oppresses Arabs and never allows them to have civil rights let alone full participation in the political system is just sick and tired of solving the problem he caused in 1948 when Israel attacked the entire world while expelling Arabs from their home land in which Jews were a tiny majority.
The UN should work out a deal with Israel similar to what they did in southern Lebanon. But since that has worked so well the UN could tell Israel that the UN would pay for each rocket that would be fired from Gaza in the future. The UN can then make sure that no weapons are imported into the territory which without Israeli opression won't have an interest to act violently anyway. UN-controlled Gaza could then close its borders with Israel like most Arab countries had traditionally done. (In fact, so could Egypt.)
The demand for Egypt to take Gaza back is obviously propaganda, since Egypt supports freedom for the Palestinian nation. But a UN-controlled Gaza and a treaty that would offer Israel money for attacks against her would work. The UN could then finally deliver food and medicine as required to Gaza. And since Hamas only fires rockets at Israel because of the occupation and blockade, Israel would gain absolutely nothing from the treaty!
Israel should simply focus on the 1967 borders and we'll continue to pretend that the Old City of Jerusalem was supposed to be part of an Arab state [damn... broke character] and was never ever a Jewish city, not in Ottoman times and certainly not after Israel occupied it in 1967. We don't know anything about Jerusalem between 1948 and 1967.
