When I started playing Elemental yesterday it was fine (beta 3). Today I'm getting the same problem as OP ( both 3 and 3a).

Glad I'm not the only one.

Still happens for me, not only for kingdom info but also researching spells and tech.

Debug.err attached

I have similar issues.

Likewise, this issue is affecting my game as well... In addition to the 'no advanced lighting for you' bug.

Just another example

Happy to post a debug.err or dxdiag too, if necessary.

Possibly trivial side-notes: The graphical errors post Kingdom Info seem pretty wildly inconsistent for me. Range from pixelized green/purple blurbs to this... Odd brick arrangement. Also possibly worth mentioning that I've only experienced this in my last three plays of the game (out of 32 total and 6 with the most recent patch).

Yeah, it varies for me too. But seems somehow a little better now than before, it used to go really crazy for me sometimes, now it seems to do that "funny clouds"-thing mostly.

Still having this problem too.

I've found the source of this problem, and have fixed it.  The fix will go into the next update.  Please let us know if you continue to have this problem with the next version.

Thanks.

Still suffering the same issue in 3B... It seems like you can fiddle with it (switch windows, change menus) and occasionally get it to return to normal, but the problem is definitely still there. It is a bit more stable, though, fair dues.

Once again

Anyone know any quickfixes that are reliable? This is bugging me to the point it's difficult to play the game without sudden bursts of angrish.

I'm still getting this problem too. Using Windows XP Home Edition, 3GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD3800, the latest Catalyst 10.6 drivers.

As in other reports, with Advanced Lighting turned on everything appears murky brown and cloudy, with Advanced Lighting off things look better, but opening a panel like the Research Screen causes permanent afterimages like shown above.

Other issues are:

When I deselect Use Fullscreen from video options and restart, it still runs in fullscreen.

The first screen that comes up when you get a quest has no text in it.

The new game content is looking cool, its too bad I'm still continuing to have these graphics issues. :( On the plus side, the intro movie and mainmenu screen had been extremely choppy/jerky in past versions, and now play much more smoothly.

edit: as for quickfixes, the only thing I've found that works is to change to Advanced Lighting before you need to open the Kingdom/Tech screen etc, then change back afterward. There are still some afterimages but they're somewhat less. Trying various combos of video options hasn't seemed to help.

For the non-advanced lighting issue with the random texture overlay after going to kingdom screen:

Please try deleting  (or renaming so you have a back-up) the following file in your elemental folder:

c:/program files/stardock games/elemental/gfx/fx/fxo/post_bloom.fxo

Then restart Elemental.

Does that fix the random texture overlay issue for you?

I am still looking into the other compatibilty problem with advanced lighting.

Thanks,

Yes! Thank you!

This seems to have gotten rid of the problem for me. :) I did like 5 times going to the Kingdom Info screen. Then with the unit design, research, etc. No overlay :)

Yay, glad to hear it.  When we do the next update, I'll make sure that gets in. :)

And that settles that problem! Fantastic!

Thanks, CC! Now I can get back to focusing on the Empire tech tree mysteriously disappearing on occasion...

You guys at Stardock rock so much it's straining the laws of reality.
