Elemental BETA 3-A Preview

This week we plan to release Elemental BETA 3-A.  This build will primarily be a stability/performance run through of Beta 3. We’re going to hold off adding significant new features until we’re happier with the stability.

I enjoy the constant updates you guys provide to the community. Thanks for this.

But what about the strategic combat?

i dont think i will play the version vacation calls :D

As mentioned, I'm sure they would like to have the game more stable before they add new features, otherwise, whats the point?

As much as I am eagerly anticipating the tactical battles, I applaud your prioritization of stability.

I also envy your smooth zooming in the video.  May I hope that the zooming problem with smooth-scrolling mice will be fixed in this version?

Heh, I really like that you now have an AI for generating Maps. It sounds ... adventurous and amazing.

Will people be able to modify their own Map-generating AI relatively easily?? :)

It will be interesting to see how it works with not being able to produce food magically.   I think this will be one of those issues that goes back and forth before we see the final result.   Personally, I think food as is needs to be more intuitive/obvious to the user about what they have and what they need.  (sort of the idea of income/expenses of gold).

Looking forward to the update, and I am finding that I choose to play...er I mean test the beta rather than playing other games in my few hours of gaming.   This is a good sign. :)

I ran BETA 3 on three different computers. (Windows XP SP3, Vista, 7).

BETA 3 running on Window XP SP3 has problem with city building regardless Kingdom or Empire. There is no buidling icon available on the city building screen. I could not build anything X(

Only Window XP SP3 has this problem so far. Vista and 7 runs fine except for some random crashes.  I tried to update Direct X and video drivers,(and used different video cards) yet having the same problem. It seems that Windows XP SP3 has the most problems with BETAs. (crashes, resolution issues, bugs?? etc.)  I am sure you guys already know the issue, just hoping to get it fixed :')

Thanks for the great job !!  I am looking forward to see the new different "SPELL" and "Equipment" interface as you mentioned. XD

Will be happy to see the graphic issues and crash bugs fixed! The list of crash/hang bugs has been getting bigger, not smaller with each new Beta release.

 .  You do know that every time you criticize someone's grammar on the internet, you make at least as many mistakes in your own post.

Yes. But that's not grammar, that's using a word that doesn't exist:P .

Good! I have severe lagging problems with Beta 3

However may I suggest you take opportuny from this 'time-out' in new features to improve the UI like you want? (it's not really a feature I would say)

It's gonna be much easier later to test the new features with UI streamlined and fully ergonomic. After stability, I see it as the first thing to do, the thing that enables all other things to be fun. (or you just keep it that way until August to prevent us to have fun :-" )

Will research be tuned up?  Currently, the Magic tree has 'Shard Harvesting', which gives the four shrines, and leads to 'Water Shrine Understanding' - but nothing for the other three.  There are a few other techs that are different or missing from .804 as well.

How about the AI? Will we be able to play some decent ai?

I'm not sure why but if I'm not mistaken Brad said that we wouldn't see the final UI in the public beta.  Seems like something you would want feedback on so I'm not sure what the thought process is but it's disappointing.  Game feels clunky and hard to test currently.  Just thought you should know.

Keep up the good work!!!! Like with anything hard work pays off =D

Looking forward to testing 3-A

Sounds awesome. I would indeed have to agree that Stability trumps adding in tactical battles. Though, as tactical battles in themselves are a "new feature" I'm sure they'll introduce a whole bunch of new bugs and stability issues on their own when they are added. Greatly looking forward to things to come. I especially can't wait until the Modding Tools are enabled. Well done Stardock :)

@Frogboy: If you're having problems with AI Pioneers try adding this line:

Pioneer_AI=GoGetNewLandNow=True

;) J/K hehe if only it were that simple.

... -_-    "Anyways" is also a word that doesn't exist. Not a Typo.

Hey Brad, you might want to rename "Goody Huts", considering many of them aren't huts, they aren't necessarily good, and plus, "goody hut" sounds gamey.

Anyway, looking forward to the tactical battles that are apparently not in this Beta.

I think it would be good to seriously consider changing your mind and improving the UI for the next Beta.  I know it's up to you, but I think it would be good to improve the usability of the interface. Unless, as Mandelik says, the interface is chunky to prevent us having too much fun. ;-)

Best regards,
Steven.

Nooo, I must have tactical battles!!

heh, I could do with some better stability/ playability/ balance. If this is stable enough, I might not upgrade to the Tactical battles till they are patched for Stability too!
