Often freezes on load, corrupt save files?

Quite often when I load a saved game, it either freezes directly after I hit the load button, or when generating the world.  I end up bring up the task manager to kill the process.  Unfortunately, it did not seem to create a debug.err or anything of the like.  This has happened on two different saves so far, and both times I've had to load up an older auto-save instead. Would be pretty annoying if it wasn't still in Beta.  :)

 I'm guessing the save file is getting corrupt somehow?  I'd attach the save file, but I don't want to download dropbox and set up an account and whatever.  (I'm lazy).  If someone wants it I can email it though.

Anyway, I'm running on a:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 5600+ 2.81 Ghz

4 Gigs of memory

Windows 7 Home Premium

NVidia Geforce GTX 275

On a semi unrelated note, the title screen and the intro lag like crazy for me as well, but in game things are fine.  No clue why!

I read in a post here that, if you wait two or three minutes before pressing "Load," it doesn't freeze.  I've tried that, and it works for me.

Hmm, I tried waiting for quite a while, but I'll be more patient next time and see if it works.  :)

I also find that the game sometimes freezes on load after i restart the game after a crash or after i exited.

However, after a fresh reboot this never seems to be a problem. I'll try the wait before load trick as well...

You can tell when you watch the background screen, as it starts flying down towards that city in the background. Wait till the music also stops stuttering, and then starts playing smoothly.. thats when you can try to load it. But don't try to load it until it stops basically choking on itself. If you do it'll choke every time.

I have also noticed this behavior, never got a game to load until i saw the "wait" thing on this board, now seems to work.

Same here, this has happened to me several times, but only after I came out of the game and reloaded within a minute or two of exiting.  Doesn't seem to matter if I leave the game normally or get crashed out.

I have a couple of saves that I can't get to load anymore no matter what I try. Pretty sad, one of them was about 1,000 turns in, with around 6 cities maxed :(

I haven't been able to reload ANY of my saved games.  Elemental always freezes when I click the load button.

Yes, the "wait" trick has worked for me both times since I read it above.  Rebooting used to help sometimes, but not always.

So, wait before clicking load -- all an evil plot to make us watch the scrolling artwork on the screen until the city appears and stops moving :)

I have the same issue with all of my saves. I'll try the wait thing.

Yep waiting until the background animation went through allows me to load the game. weird.
