This is going to be fun:

The National Rifle Association is in unfamiliar terrain on the conservative firing range this election year: It’s the target.

The conservative Netroots are abuzz over the possibility that the NRA may endorse Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). This would be the second major slight by the NRA for political conservatives — the gun group also just negotiated a big exemption on a campaign finance bill loathed by the right.

Conservatives say there’s a clear political calculation at work: If Reid loses, he’s almost certain to be succeeded as majority leader by a fierce gun-control advocate, either Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin or New York Sen. Chuck Schumer.

If anything teabaggers will be glad to know that it lends a certain amount of credibility to the Angle camp. Still though, usually the NRA nod to a republican candidate is a given.

It all portends a nasty and prolonged fight between Republicans and a highly influential lobby that has long been a GOP partner in Washington policy battles — and it could hardly come at a worse time for Republicans, who see the Nevada race as one of the GOP's best opportunities to cut into Democrats’ 59-seat majority.

Oh the second part is true. No doubt. The first part? What battle are they really going to fight? All of a sudden the GOP is going to divorce the NRA? Get some teabaggers to say that they're actually against the NRA?

Dan you must be an idiot that fell off the turnip truck yesterday. Many people have joined the anti-gun movement in the last 20 years or so and as expected the Democratic Party jumps in to suck up their votes. They try to please all, and end up pleasing few as usual. Yet not all Democrats fall in line with the pied pipers of the anti-gun movement. We can only be grateful there are still many that believe in the constitution. The NRA will side with those that advance their cause. Tell me do you see everything in red and blue?

I know this might be a difficult concept for you to grasp, since you're not a conservative, but Liberals and progressives will not look at others outside of their narrow partisan view of how they believe things should be, even if someone outside their circle wants the same thing. It's too demeaning for them. Conservatives will.

I think these are the 2 pull quotes as you would say.  The NRA has never been a "republican" organization (they have endorsed many a democrat in the past).  They are a lobbying group that seeks to advance their own agenda and will support the candidate they see as will do the most good for them.  Clearly they think Reid is that candidate in that election.  So the problem is where?

It also demonstrates a lot more intelligence than other lobbying groups.  That have aligned themselves so closely with one party that they have lost all clout.  In other words, if they do not get what they want, they have no place to go.  That is stupid, but then no one said most one party lobbying groups had any Mensa candidates in them.
