So... We're Moviing In A Few Weeks

So... We're Moviing In A Few Weeks

... you know, packing stuff we'd forgot having.

Yeah, so here's the go!  My niece is a store manager for the Coles supermarket chain here in Oz and she's having to transfer to enhance her career opportunities, meaning that she needs to move house while somebody else moves in to keep an eye on the place.   That's where we come in... not that I had any plans to move again any time soon.  Thing is, it is a much bigger house than the one we're in, with more living area inside and out, and my niece needs a rent income coming in to help pay the mortgage and maintenance bills, etc.   That's alright... it's a 100 bucks a month cheaper than what we pay now, and it's convenient to shopping, everything we need.  The real bonus about all this is the fact that my niece will not be wanting to move back into this house, so we can pretty much stay there indefinitely... it's more an investment for her kids when they're adults than being the family home now.

Yup, really looking forward to it!  There's upstairs/downstairs, a covered entertainment areas outside, a huge double garage for added storage (we don't got cars), and this massive entertainment lounge downstairs WITH a TV/projector, wall-mounted screen and  hi-fi surround sound already installed.  Like WOW, we're picking up this $7,599 (original retail value) entertainment unit for just $800. Bargain!!!   Apart from the fact that my niece didn't pay full retail price, due to 10% staff discount during a store-wide sale, she just doesn't want to have to pony up to have it professionally removed and reinstalled at her new place,

The place is semi-furnished, also, so although we already have our own furniture, it is for a smaller place and we would have had to buy more to fill the place properly.  We'll have an additional lounge/sofa suite for downstairs entertainment area, an outdoor lounge setting for the massive back deck, an 8 piece dining setting and a large BBQ setting (table and chairs) for the covered outdoor area.  Oh, and the storage in this place is like WOW.  There are built-in cupboards and closets everywhere, so we don't need to buy any of those for when we get there.

We have another 5 weeks on our current lease, but we well start packing and moving our lesser needed stuff as of this week,... saves doing it all in a rush at the end.  Anyhow, we mightn't be around quite as much over the next few weeks, but don't worry, we're not gonna disappear any time soon... and nobody think about disappearing if'n when we're gone, ya hear??

Oh, Kitty, if you're reading this, we'll be a bit closer to you n' wulfee... at Brassall.

And while she's at it, how about a magical disappearance of a month on our current lease?.... then we'd be back to shifting mid- August.

Tanks fer that. :sun:   Now would it be too much to ask fer a nose wiggle that transports all our stuff and puts it in the appropriate cupboards/places at the other end?

If so, I'll have that and a slab to make me some shandies... it'll be very thirsty work, ya know. ;P

Sure would, and the downstairs laundry would be the perfect spot... running water and plenty of bench space to put the fermenters.  If I do return to home brewing, though, it'd be half the strength of the stuff I used to make... and I'd make my own lemonade to complete the homemade shandy experience.

I haven't brewed any in a while now (probably 7 or 8 years now), but I just used those pre-mixed cans of wort you can buy in supermarkets... tho many home-brew purists would say that's cheating.  Thing is, it's quick and convenient that way... much less mess to clean up afterwards.  Coopers bitter or Draught are quite popular, but I found the Woolies Home Brand bitter (the Coles and Black & Gold brands are identical) is just as good at the end of the day... a couple of bucks cheaper as well, if you need to count pennies.  Specialist home brew shops stock many more varieties, though, and you may want the experiment with other types of beers... ie, lagers, brown ales, stouts, etc.

Essentially, if you follow the instructions on the tin and ensure the yeast isn't added prior to a too warm mixture, you pretty much can't go wrong.  So long as all your equipment is properly sterilised and you add only the recommended sugar level when bottling (so as not to have exploding bottles a few days in) your brew should turn out just fine.  Oh, and when the fermentation process appears to have stopped (in the airlock) I always found it was best to leave the brew sit in the fermenter for a few days (even up to a week is OK) prior to bottling... less sediment and the flavours are much cleaner/crisper.

Anyhow, best of luck with it all, thought you shouldn't need it.  However, if you have any questions, etc, you could always PM me and I'll do what I can to help.

It might have been a while, but it's like riding a bike, really, you never forget.  :)

OMG  I can't believe that in a few days time we will be moving to our new home , what seemed like forever  to get here  and now it has there is still plenty to do just when we thought that we had the cleaning in order the damn real estate wants us to clean the window runners, I don't think they should be done as they wernt done when we moved in, in fact the place  was not the best nor the cleanest when we moved in 3 years ago, but they expect us to clean it with NO thanks in return  hmmmm one has to wonder :\ but if we don't do it then its a risk that we may loose our bond so they have us by the short and  curlies  cos of  other people that lived here before us , shhz talk  about making things harder for other people who want to do the right thing

You'll forget all the piddling stuff soon after moving in....and starting to enjoy some room, and all those fantastic plusses you're getting!

I do hope you get in soon....Oi! Here's a bright spot: At least you're not moving in the summer heat! You should be in the 20's (Celsius) for a while yet... so, count your blessings there!

When I was in Israel for Ethan's birth, the weather was awful. It was running 34-38-39 and super humid... hell on earth.

Remember: We expect pictures of the new diggs! :)

Hopefully the green tarp we put over it ain't too heavy. You know how them cabbages stink if'n they get to heated up. Best of luck to you both. You deserve it.

The pre-summer temps won't mean a thing for me... I raise a running down my face sweat in mid-winter just mowing the lawn.   It's because I have crushed nerves in my neck, and in Summer I literally pour with sweat just having a hot drink, much less actually doing anything.  Nevermind, my nephews will be doing the bulk of the heavy work, and I'll have a towel on hand to wipe my brow/face as necessary.

Hehe, trust Uvah to think of cabbages.... and just as well, too.  We won't have time to grow any for a while, so a ready made crop is a bonus.

Not half as bad as what they are by the time I've finished with 'em.

That's for sure  and one that wont be too hot in the summer is going to be a bonus too XD

Yup, we start moving on Friday.  It's a few days before the lease actually runs out (9th Sept), but with the place totally empty we can clean those more difficult to get at areas... not to mention have the carpets professionally cleaned without the furniture as a hinderance.  So we'll have to come back a couple of times to finalise things before we hand the keys in next Wednesday.  Then it's goodbye to Goodna and hello to more spacious living at Brassall.

So.... I'm totally knackered!   Well we've been cleaning and packing along the way, but it seems the closer we get the more there is to do.  Worse still, the property manager sent us a list of tasks to "maximise" our bond return, stuff that I feel is over and above the usua lcleaning prior to vacating a property and it's like an extra couple of days work have been added to our schedule.

What pisses me off is that the place is already ten times cleaner and better maintained than when we moved in, as is indicated on the entry condition report... and this property manager woman just about wants us to get down on our hand and knees with a toothbrush to clean any crevices there might be.  Thing is, the bond is 1200 bucks, and it we want it back we gotta be meticulous, I guess.

Anyhow, one of my nephews will be here in the morning to take up 3 or 4 loads in his ute (flatbed truck), so I'd best get me some snooze so I'm up and at it before he gets here.

I can't wait only 3 sleeps
