Peoples were going on about army size. So I'll say this.

Age of Wonders did it in a very clunky way. If a battle started and you were RIGHT NEXT to one particpant, you'd join in. Battles were autodone and thus happened in a second, which kinda sucked for team battles. Cities were easier - you could put your units into allied cities (to attack, you'd have to take the center of the city, while the 'outskirts' were free for you, or anyone else, to sit in) which would put you into battles.

Actully Age of Wonders can be set to 'Always do Tactical Combat.' Even in Multiplay.  At least that is how my friends have it set. So we can have a multi-empire battle

Overpowered champions and sovereigns that can take on huge numbers of regular troops sounds perfect to me.

As long as the game's AI is horrible, yea.

But it's not so fun when it happens to you.

I mean, good grief guys, we had people screaming because there were tough creatures spawning in their starting locations and those creatures don't even target anyone in particular yet.  It would be a riot if a player's 10 hour long game ends because the AI somehow managed to build up to a single mega unit that teleported itself to your capital, dispelled your protection enchantments and then volcano'd it.

I would find it horrible if the AI could not do it to me. When I here people cry about the AI being "to Tough" I want to tell them to go play Hello Kitty and get out of my game. I hate it when a game dumbs down the AI because some people can't take the challange.

Sorry it is just a pet peeve of mine.

And of mine too! }:)

If you feed people with dumb-down fodder, they'll demand more dumb-down fodder!

If you give them tough bones, they'll learn to like tough bones!

So make it tough! :ninja:

(and for info: even in AoW2 I must care for my level 30 champions for, oh yes, they are mortal! And I know it too well since I'm at half the campaign these days)

I just had my 30 level Hero with 20 in all stats killed by 6 stacks of 1 thru 3 (and two 4th level units) this morning in AOW:SM. Damn AI jumped me while I was liberating his cities from his evil Life like ways, Damn the Archons.

Someone asked earlier the difference between public and private betas. That's a long answer. The short answer is, in the public version, you guys just finally got horses. In the private build, they're already riding Wargs. It's about the AI, man. People poo poo this stuff but it matters. Can't put this stuff out there without at least basic AI knowledge or it might as well be a tech demo. Sucky AI still is 100X better than no AI.

Agreed! Just let it cheat if needed. Civ IV cheats like crazy on all higher levels... still a great game

Please try to have the AI not cheat. This is so annoying in games.

On lower difficulty levels the AI won't cheat. But it's impossible to make an AI that is challenging to an experienced human player and doesn't cheat (at least I haven't seen such thing in any game), so it will cheat on higher levels.
