Gothic 3, as good as Oblivion?

Looks like Gothic 3 GOTY is on sale for $9.99 and I'm looking for a "new" RPG.  I've started playing Oblivion again but looking for something I haven't played before.  I know it's hard to go wrong for 10 bucks but just looking for opinions if they liked Gothic 3 and had fun with it.  Especially if you are an Elders Scrolls fan.

That will be... interesting. The game mechanics, a lot of the combat mechanics, much of the plot, and the general pacing of both Risen and Gothic 3 are essentially the same. I wonder if Gothic 4 will continue along those lines, or if new devs mean a new direction. Oh well!
