Money woes in Elemental

I have noticed after recruiting heroes at the start of the game my income turns negative!!!!

Its like this, I build a city and chase down a group of guys. They want 300 to join me. Ok I have 4 or 500 I should be able to afford them right??

So I go ahead and pay up then BAM, instantly in the red. -XXX amount. Whats up with that?

Yes, there are currently some bugs involving champion parties or level modifiers not being accounted for in the asked price.
