Sim Elemental?

It seems to me that Elemental is a perfect platform for a sim game. Well, perfect is a strong word. A pretty damn good platform. The game already has some really good "sim" moments, the city construction is very strong. You could make a decent Supreme Commander 2020-esque geo-political simulation, or an even better city builder. And if you're just making a fantasy city builder like Settlers, then you'd hardly need to do any work at all.

What do you guys think? Do you have a "sim" itch?

The only sim that keeps me interested is Dwarf Fortress, and its scope is quite different than your average sim.;)

To the OP:  Elemental does indeed seem like a good platform for a sim game, if you want to make a sim mod, I say go for it!

Sim RPG is something I have been wishing for a long long time now. Hmm Sim Medieval City sounds cool too.

DF isn't a typical "sim" game. ;)

Well, I still want to do my ultimate project Dark Republic. But... it's such a large project it makes sense to break it up into chunks, maybe make a simple city builder and working my way up from there.

Personally, I don't think of Dwarf Fortress as a typical "game".   period.

If you mean a kind of long-term politics sim like Victoria or Crusader Kingdoms and the like, then yeah, I could actually see that working out pretty well.  Maybe a later stage of the game taking focus away from constructing cities and exploring, and more focus on diplomacy and global warfare.

But I think it's better to avoid the spore trap and just focus on one stage of gameplay.

Also, dwarf fortress is more a state of mind than a game.

A mind filled with MAGMA and INDUSTRY and BOOZE.

I suppose you could try a Fantasy Sim with possible inspiration from the original "majesty" game.

Or even a more magical and less dwarf-oriented (in-depth fantasy sim) parallel to Dwarf Fortress

I'd definitely enjoy playing a good sim game, especially a good fantasy geo-political simulation.

just do dwarf fortress for elemental.

A full Dwarf Fortress mod might be about as much work as a Dark Republic mod though ... well other than Modeling/ Animation/ Tech Tree I suppose

Semi-unrelated but is there a Dwarf Fortress for... inexperienced people? I tried one of the original ones and it was just way too much for me to comprehend and the graphic were difficult to understand. I've heard about some things that improve the graphics but can't find 'em.

Someone should remake Dwarf Fortress with Elemental. Now that's a version of Dwarf Fortress I'd like to play!!!

The most important things are the graphics tileset and DwarfTherapist. The rest is really not something you need. Stonesense, for example, is really just a way of making it look better, but you can't actually do anything with the game using it (so you can't actively use it).

Oh wow... what a processor hog that would be. I think my PC would melt.

Sim style is a good idea.  Maybe someone could do something kind of like Dungeon Keeper.  It would be quite a bit different I guess unless we could make dungeon maps.  But the something along those lines would be cool.  Or a Majesty style sim.
