Just bought Sins - Trinity

Just bought Sins - Trinity

Greetings to the existing Sins' players. I just picked up this game after catching site of it and doin a bit of reviews on what the game is about . Saw both the regular game of the year version then trinity alongside it and figured for that price i knew what way to go.

So i got my copy installed. first thing i noticed is Trinity itself isnt recognized by Xfire which i generally like using. Somehow i guess i wont be able to get around this.

Also since i am completely new to this game is there a big difference between the base game and entrenchment & Diplomacy. Since im new id rather not jump into anything before getting a feel for the game before hand. Since when i start the game it brings me to the base screen and from there i can choose to select 1 of the other 2(diplomacy/entrenchment). If i just play the base game and dont enter through the 2 expansion menu options are the features that came with them still added into the base game? Nothing in the manual(which seems not quite as huge as i expected for what seems to be a monster of a game) really specifies so i decided to come to the forums and introduce myself and hope to ask the player base here after reading that it sounded like this game had a very good community overall. Thanx in advance to any of you who stop by and check out my post

Err, correction i think i see what i did wrong with the Distant Stars mod, i only went with the link for the full version, somehow blindly overlooking the bolded line saying i needed to grab the patch part as well for that version.

yeah, Stardock's techies make an oops now and again and hafta add a hotfix(unfortunately it's usually right after everyone updates their mods to the current update, just to redo the process again) so DS and the rest are just releasing patches for their updates which is alot faster and easier  anyway and smaller dl all together.

@GoaFan77   Yeah it is, but if it's a larger map it can do a nasty number on extended system colonization good for you bad for them. but yeah it really is a long game plan not a short one lol. Still, as advent it also does quite well for uncovering just about everything on the map.

Oh, that culture spying tech on the other hand is a good investment (on the AI anyway, human players will just park a capital ship to keep the culture from getting that far). Indeed, friendly culture bonuses are among the best in the game. I just disprove of anything that gives the idea you can completely "win" a game through culture.

Also Devilman a lot of the most popular gameplay mods integrate a lot of the graphics/sound (basically non gameplay) mods with them to provide the best game experience. While you can (with entrenchment and diplomacy) choose to enable any amount of mods simultaneously, they are only likely to work if they modify completely separate files. If they change part of the same file there is a good chance they won't work, which is why they are often built into other mods.

1) From what I gathered so far, it seems that vanila sins, entrenchment and diplomacy are three different games (have to launch different exe) and whatever game enhancements found in entrenchment are found in diplomacy.  However, is the graphics in the vanila sins updated with the installation of entrenchment and diplomacy?

Seems that it is not so much of entrenchment /diplomacy updating the vanila game's features aka world of warcraft with   expansions installed (launch wow to play and not selecting the expansion pack to play).

2) To have a complete (in terms of features) and updated gaming experience, do we just play diplomacy since it has all the features and enhancements from the previous two?

Appreciate your time reading and answering this.

Thanks !

1. The graphics aren't really all that different between versions, the expansions mainly just add new content and features, not change what is already their.

2. Yes for the most part, the only real reason to play entrenchment or vanilla instead of diplomacy is for multiplayer with people who don't have diplomacy or for mods that haven't been updated for diplomacy.

And THAT was your 1st mistake!

Joking.  Perhaps you're right.    I'm not sure exactly what qualifies posts to be stickied.   I don't feel like there is enough content in here as a solid FAQ thread or something that that should be.   I just say,

"HEY YOU NEW PLAYERS!  POST HERE SO IT STAYS BUMPED"

and it doesn't need to be sticked.  :P
