Winstep Nexus dock (free dock with system tray support) v10.4 released

Who said you couldn't have a free dock with system tray support?

Winstep has released Nexus v10.4 (and Nexus Ultimate v10.4). The Winstep Nexus Dock is a FREE professional dock for Windows. With Nexus, your most frequently used applications are only a mouse click away - and Nexus turns working with your computer into a FUN and enjoyable experience once again.

Nexus includes every feature you’d expect from a dock, including widgets, mouse-over effects, skins, drag-and-drop, and even others not available in most other docks, such as live icon reflections, in-dock system tray, Vista Aero Glass effects, and much more. Completely customizable, Nexus has thousands of backgrounds freely available online and is fully compatible with skins for all 3rd party docks.

Nexus Ultimate is an enhanced, multi-dock, multi-level version of the free-to-use Nexus dock which is available stand-alone and as a component of Winstep Xtreme, a single easy-to-install package featuring all our popular desktop enhancement products for Windows.

Nexus is free. Nexus Ultimate is $24.95 and adds, besides multiple docks and multi-level sub-docks, a powerful tabbed dock able to display not only regular shortcuts as well as virtual folders such as the Control Panel, Desktop, My Computer, etc..., and even file system folders of your choice. With Nexus Ultimate your whole computer is literally only one mouse click away!

What they said!!  How do I find out which release my key is good for? I probably need to upgrade. I have to reinstall it and I don't know how to go the version I'm entitled to.  Help!!!

LOVE my Winstep Xtreme.

I'm running 10.4 but don't seem to have the Nexus Dock component. Did I miss something?

Edit:oops

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain over there.. I found the dock.

Winstep Xtreme is the top-of-the-cream. It has every Winstep application currently available: NextSTART, WorkShelf, Nexus Ultimate, Start Menu Organizer Pro, FontBrowser...

Truly a great program. Congrats, Jorge....Well done!!! :)

Excellent Jorge, I am an Xtreme convert !

Same here... been one for 5 or more yearsa now, and it's a top shelf suite of apps, for sure.

I shall have to look further into this Nexus update, though.  It's looking very interesting indeed. :sun:

Just to clear this up: if you have Xtreme, you are already running Nexus Ultimate. Xtreme includes everything plus the kitchen sink. It also makes toast in the morning.

One of the things I'm adding tomorrow to the Winstep web site is a product comparison table - should be enough to clear any confusion.

Ahah. And coffee, if you ask it nicelly. |-)

Not only that, take a look at Winstep's latest development schedule:

May 20 : Nexus Ultimate 10.4 released.
April 29 : Winstep Xtreme 10.4 released.
April 20 : Nexus 10.4 released (announcement held back until Nexus Ultimate was ready).
March 27: Nexus 10.3 released.
March 25: Winstep Xtreme 10.3 released.
February 11: Nexus 10.1 and Winstep Xtreme 10.1 released.
December 1: Nexus 9.12 and Winstep Xtreme 9.12 released.
November 23: Nexus 9.11 official (first non-beta) release.

A new release roughly every month - and these are not minor bug fixes either, the change log for each release is nearly a foot long.

Sneak preview of features comming soon: native Stacks docklet (which will be exclusive to Nexus Ultimate/Winstep Xtreme) and the final, non-beta, release of Winstep Xtreme with the new User Interface and multi-language support (lack of updated detailed documentation is essentially the only thing still keeping it in beta).

This said, given Nexus Ultimate support for multi-level (nested) sub-docks, a native Stacks docklet is more of nice eye-candy addition than a real necessity. But users have asked for it, so... :P

And nice docks there Jorge!

Glad I bought WinStep Extreme the other day. Really waiting for a Dock with native stacks. ObjectDock beware.

Looks great! Does it support SysStats Docklets?

Nope, not currently, sorry. Nexus has it's own set of system stat docklets (modules): CPU Meter, Net In and Out Meters and a RAM Meter. Many more are scheduled to be added once the final version of Winstep Xtreme (currently in beta) with the new User Interface and multi language support has been released.

The native Modules/Docklets in Winstep applications also feature the same attention to detail Winstep is well-known for: for instance, the Net Meter modules also allow you to monitor which applications are using your LAN connection, which port they are connected to, kill unwanted connections, etc..., and can also show you a mind boggling array of TCP/UDP stats regarding each Network Interface Card.

The clock module is not only able to show you the time in analog or digital formats, as it is also able to synch your system time to the Internet Atomic Time servers *and* tell you the current time in plain English (male and female voices available). |-)

The Desktop versions of the CPU and RAM meters (only available in Winstep Xtreme, sorry) are also able to show you at a glance which applications are using the most CPU and RAM at that point in time, etc...

You can expect the same level of features and attention to detail from future Winstep modules.

I tried it.  It's kinda cool.  Don't know where it'll fit in with my ObjectDock though.  I guess I'll have to see what the final release of 2.0 brings.  If I'm not pleased, I may drop the money on Nexus Ultimate.

Actually? It's not about "either/or". OD and NeXuS coexist peacefully, and there are many common themes, etc. for both.

What amazes me is that Jorge does this all by himself. That's kind of amazing considering what all these apps do.

It Rocks!  That covers it pretty well. Thanks Jorge!  5*

According to Stardock, you will have to wait until next Fall then - Jeff is a great developer, but there is only one of him and he is tied up to a lot of projects right now.

For me it is.  I only need one version of a dock, either it's going to be OD 2.0, which I'm comfortable with (based on my time with 1.9), or I'm going to go with the NeXus dock.

Well, I'm willing to wait.  I've put in my money and my time with this dock, and I'd hate to jump ship because of time.  1.9 does what I need, 2.0 seems like it's going to be good.  The free NeXus seems cool, but I'm not currently willing to drop 25 bucks to test the NeXus Ultimate dock until I know that I'm not happy with OD 2.0.

It is pretty amazing.  It's a shame that Jeff B. is so talented that he gets pulled in so many directions for Stardock.  I can't imagine how wicked OD would be if that was all Jeff had to work on.

Yes, it was a very inteligent decision, from a business point-of-view, to make users pay for the very first OD 2.0 beta based only on a handful of screenshots. Once their money has been invested users are commited and, essentially, have no choice but to wait for the final release - however long it takes. Smart. |-)

Agreed.  But, one might watch what one says here...you may get accused of something...

And why would that be? Did I say something wrong or that wasn't 100% true? Stardock didn't force anybody to pay for the beta - smart move, as I said.

Anyway, you are right that we shouldn't discuss this here, but only because this is a Winstep Nexus thread, not a ObjectDock thread. :)
