Devs! there are so many people with mesh troubles!

please, instead of just "your mesh files are differnt" tell them what to do!

this is very simple, and may single handedly save multiplayer.

 

all I want, is instead of a stupid sign that says "your mesh files differ" have a stupid sign that says

"your mesh files differ... copy and paste this link into your broswer where there are instructions to fix it: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/341480"

To clear out your mesh files, you'll need to go into the application folder (right click in Impulse, select 'Open application folder'), and there are three different 'Mesh' folders. The first is in the root folder, and there may be two more, depending on which version of the game you have, in the \Entrenchment and \Diplomacy folders. Delete everything in those folders, then right click on the game(s) in Impulse, and select 'Verify Installation'. Impulse will check the integrity of the installed application, and an update should be made available in Impulse. This is not an update to a newer version, but simply Impulse using the update mechanism to replace the missing files. Once you complete the update, reboot your computer.

Hope this helps anyone with the problem i have recently had !!

BUMP. Change the name of the thread to "Devs! 30 seconds of your time can stop mesh problems!" or something that indicates this ain't a rant thread but a rant+solution included.

I have an even better idea--how about releasing a new patch to definitively and permanently fix this problem?

I am pretty sure that patches can only add or overwrite files. They can not delete existing unused files which is the case here.

That is just merging. The files need to be deleted.

They would have to make a small executable that deletes specified files.

Let's not spread a deletophobia shall we? Every program deletes some files during the time it's active. Installers delete temporary files, Uninstallers delete a lot, most games can delete your saved games if you tell'em to. Word deletes your document when you close it (it is kept in a hidden temp file, deleted upon program shutdown) unless you save it.

I know I wouldn't mind if the next patch replaced "you mesh file differ" with:

Ooops! Sorry, but your mesh files differ. There is a known solution to this problem: you have to delete and redownload (using impulse) certain items from the game's XYZ folder. Doing this will not damage your system in any way.

Click <YEAH LET'S DO THIS> to delete the files and open impulse to replace them now

And there are those who would be against it. Some people hate the fact they have to install Impulse to update the game.

So its easier for IC to prevent the can of worms brought by having a .exe access your computer. Not saying its the best choice but I can see their logic behind it if this is why they not done it so far.

Well, carbon, if they have the most recent patch, then... ima preety sure the current box set doesnt ship with it... and the patch is required for multiplayer, and last time i checked, the patch requires impulse... so they already have inpulse.

and the simple fix which does not require impulse or dling is just a simple "delete these files..." (which works most of the time)

the easiest thing is to simply say.... delete these three files... and if that doesnt work, delete the folder and have inpulse patch it.

simple. done. and every one is happy. :)

Another thing that is starting to bug the heck out of me is the GAZILLLLION threads asking "how do i play entrenchment and diplomacy at the same time"... now while EVERY SINGLE ONE of these people are MORONS for not being able to boot up the game and notice they can build starbases in diplomacy... (and more so for not being able to scroll down a few threads and find the answer... or search function) A sticky or something might be a good idea. /rant.

Yeah Devs.  A simple patch IS NEEDED, so that people that bought Trinity can play online without having to search for some solution on the message boards, and jump thru a bunch of hoops.

AND you NEED to nerf Skirantra Scramble Bombers!  A simple solution is:  change the cooldown from 35 to 40 (or 60).  (That simple solution would mean that the maximum number of bombers scrambled would be the same as it was in 1.18, except for level 1, and they would just spawn 2 & 3 at a time at levels 3 & 5).  Thus the maximum average number of squads for each carrier cap would be as follows:

And while you are at it, a simple buff of adding a squad to all the non-carrier Cap ships would go a long way toward making all of the other Cap ships competive with the Carrier Caps.

Edit: after later discussion, it became clear that reducing duration would be better than lengthening cooldown.  A 105 duration would spawn the same amount of squads as a 40cd, and a 70 duration corrresponds to 60cd.  And results in no change in antimatter consumption.

All that needs to be done is to just slightly nerf Scramble Bombers.  Your proposal for nerfing it sounds reasonable in those regards.  The other caps are fine as they are.  If you want strikecraft, build a carrier cap--that's what makes them unique.

NEED to nerf Skirantra Scramble Bombers!

To reitterate the NEED to nerf Scramble Bombers, I realized that my previous table didn't show the actual MAXIMUM number of squads, but more correctly the maximum AVERAGE number of squads.  So I am updating it to illustatrate just how many squads the current Scramble Bombers can generate.  Granted, the last extra squads scrambled are only present for 15 seconds (of the 35s cooldown, or .43 of the time).  And Anima Tempest's 60 additional strikecraft (about 7.5 squads, 6.67 to 8.571) are only present for 75s every 180s.

The following table is the revised actual potential MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SQAUDS for each races Carrier Cap:

(In other words, Carrier Caps start with 3 squads of strikecraft each, and level up to a maximum of 8.  New squads are aquired at every other level, except for back to back at levels 5 and 6.  But now a 1.19 Skirantra can have up to 4 more squads at the first upgrade, 8 extra squads at the second upgrade (as early as level 3).  And up to 12 extra by level 5! So a maximum of 7/1, 12/3, 17/5 and one more at levels 6, 8 and 10.)

The level 5 Skirantra (1.19) is where it gets ridiculous - up to 17 bomber squads, or 9 more than a comparable Halcyon!

P.S.  I checked my figures, with actual testing, and they are correct.  The 1.18 average number of squads is the same as its maximum number.  I still think, a simple nerf reducing duration to match 1.18 maximum squads would be adequate and easy!

No, other Caps are too weak.  They're not even competitive.  And some Carrier Caps are so good, that it doesn't make sense to build carriers frigates "if you want strikecraft".  Its often better to build another Carrier Cap! 

My point was:  that adding a squad to all the other Cap ships would help bring them up to the level of Carrier Caps, and those extra fighters would greatly help to protect them against Carrier Cap bomber spam.  Not as a means of adding strikecraft.  Just a simple way to buff all others.  In particular, the Support, Siege and Battleship Caps all need buffing.  It would help greatly if the Support Caps started with 2 squads (1 extra)!  The Colony Caps are ok without another squad or any other possible buffs.

But I'll agree that nerfing the Skirantra is all that is really needed!  Buffing others would just be icing on the cake.
