Influence Borders Problem

Hey y'all,

I'm new to this forum, so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area. I'm currently playing GalCiv II Ultimate and having problems with influence and the borders. They're not appearing on the screen as widely as they were before. Before, for example, my civ's influence borders were pushing against the Drengin almost to their homeworld and even in parts of space where no one was there to challenge me and I had a maxed out influence base there, the influence border was certainly embracing nearby star systems. But suddenly, my influence borders (and that of every other civilization) have shrunk tremendously. I no longer threaten Drengin planets (and I can't chalk that up to them having tons of influence, cuz I have full info on them) and my influence stations even in unchallenged space are surrounded by somewhat sad circles. Surely someone has posted on this before. Anyone know what I'm supposed to do? Love this game, but I do enjoy seeing us all bordered up. Kinda fun like that.

There is an event that decreases all influence, and that may have happened in your game.

There is also one that increases everyone's influence. One usually follows the other after a certain number of weeks or months.

Not much you can do about it, except to plant more influence bases (which may make some civs declare war on you) or build some of the special buildings that increase influence on a global scale. You can also get some influence resources and load them up with mining modules.

Ah... that makes sense. I remember that event that talked about people no longer being intersted in other cultures. Cool... glad to know what that actually did. Even if I don't like it. ;) Thanks so much for the clarification and speed of reply! I'm just glad it's not a bug! Seems I always manage to be surprised by this game...
