May is upon us and...

May is upon us and the Washington Nationals are actually still somewhat competitive.  What a difference a year (and a new manager and a couple of new players) makes.  Seriously, they stunk so badly last year that it's hard to imagine that the same (basic) team might be competitive.  Of course, as I've told a co-worker repeatedly, that team was putrid partly because of their horrible manager.  Manny Acta had no fire in his gut, or at least refused to show any fire in his gut, and his team knew it.  Horribly bad calls were ignored and accepted as the norm.  On the other hand, Jim Riggleman sees bad calls and quickly gets his tail out on the field to debate those calls with the boys in blue.  He is still respectful in doing so, but it shows the team that he has their back and cares about the game they are playing in.  I've been meaning to contact my uncle in the Cleveland area and ask him what his team did so wrong to deserve having Manny Acta manage them, but I don't want to rub it in.  Surprisingly enough at last glance Acta's Indians were somewhat competitive themselves, though I'm sure that won't last and he'll never be able to get them to perform at their best.

The day is just beginning as I write this.  Nothing really planned for the day short of a trip for my daughter to the dentist to get a cavity taken care of.  She was supposed to have had it done earlier in the week but the dentist had to reschedule on her due to another patient's emergency.  If we had missed that appointment we'd have gotten nailed with a fee for missing the appointment.  Of course the dentist can change the appointment with a moments notice.  Doesn't quite seem fair does it?  Perhaps I should try a George Costanza and see if the dentist will compensate us for making us resched?

The kids are headed out with a friend of the family tomorrow.  I'm hoping to catch a movie with a friend myself.  The Losers looks like it'll be the winner for that, but that may change depending on what we can get tickets for when we get to the theatre, or if I can even break away to get to the theatre.

The afternoon should be open so I can watch the NASCAR boys bumpin' and bangin' at Richmond.  I had been tempted to see about getting tickets to see the race live but I'd rather try to catch the race at Dover, DE and even that is proving to be something I'll probably be home watching on the TV rather than seeing in person.

Back to the dentist for a bit... I've got my own appointments for work there coming up in a few weeks.  I'm so looking forward to it.  NOT!  Well, actually, yeah, I probably am looking forward to it because I've got a cavity that I can easily feel back in the back corner of my mouth.  After it's filled, and once the novacaine wears off, then I'll be fairly happy.

That's about it for now, hopefully more later on...

1. Dentist.  My doctor did that to me.  And then refunded my visit!  Ok, so I did not get my time back, but at least he is honest about the time.

2. Nationals.  HEY!  What about them Mets!  Started off bad, but just skunked the damn Phillies!

OK, if you have the time, let's get it on with the Mets/Nationals!  Since  my teams are Raiders/Mets, I have not had a lot to cheer about lately.  So for now, the Mets are golden!
