Are you crashing like crazy still? Let's compare hardware.

Are you crashing like crazy still? Let's compare hardware.

Some of us, and we seem to be in the minority, have started crashing every couple of turns since 1Z1 or 1Z2. On the off chance that we have some kind of hardware fault in common, let's compare and see what we can come up with something.

Post your specs here and make a note of whether you've always crashed, whether you get crashes before the game loads, or whether it happens during the game.

You should use the spces provided by clicking Start > Run, and typing dxdiag

Hit "save all information," save the file somewhere you can remember it, and then open it up and paste ONLY THE FIRST BIT OF INFORMATION, AS THE POST BELOW DEMONSTRATES.

If you're having trouble finding the dxdiag, yahoo to find out where to access your dxdiag

I have had several times the number of CTD in .302 than I have had in all the other Beta 1Z builds combined.

"- We don't do much XP testing...i'll be curious how many people are running that OS.
- We only have a handfull of AMD machines...will have ot test more on there."

Arrgh!!  I'm XP 32-bit Intel now, and crashing like crazy.   Next machine will probably be AMD because they don't seem to change sockets so much and I expect to have better upgrade options a couple years later.

"We actually got an XP machine up and running (and crashing) already. Hopefully a fix is soon to follow!!!"

Good! ! !

Add me to the list of XP users with constant (every 10-15 turns) crashes at seemingly random times. I can complete a game thanks to autosave, the crashes are not reproducible, but definitely not ready for multiplayer.

Quoting knworld, reply 19Not sure if this is a general cause for the crashes, but I just noticed that I stopped crashing if I unchecked the "Enable Event Music" and "Enable layered music."
Oddly this seems to have fixed another problem I was having (my units were not moving properly) but unfortunatly I am still crashing shortly after I research farming.

Actually, I still had some crashes disabling just those two check boxes, but I haven't had any crashes since I unchecked all the audio settings. The load speed for the game seems to be quicker too.

I seem to be crashing about once every 15 turns...  as the game progresses the crashes happen more frequently.  My system is also setup and ready for testing the Windows_XP_64Bit version...  if Stardock is interested.

Between turning off the AA (to eliminate the blank cloth map) and disabling the two sound settings listed, my experience has improved dramatically.

I still get the occasional CTD, but it is nowhere nearly as often as it was before.

Thanks for that tip. I was literally about to give up until the next build!

Interesting...so the sound/music system is causing CTDs as well. This information will be helpful to the devs.

x64 XP? You must be masochistic.

Some minor tweaking and the XP64Bit system runs all my games(old and new) without any problems.  I'm not the standard gamer... I build computers from parts for fun and get paid for solving complex software and hardware issues for several huge blue_chip companies.

The 64Bit Operating Systems is what future games will eventually be using... it's only a question of which developers will be the first to enter this new world.

'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to the motherboard 'e'd be pushing up the daisies!

'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig!

And...uh...is...is there any way to take Karma AWAY from another board member?  I'm...I'm just curious *stares at Frogboy*

Quoting Magicke, reply 7ty BoogieBac, think I'll be using WinXP for  a while still.  Think there are still quite a few of us

Up until I got Win 7 I was FIRMLY planted in the Win XP court. I hated Vista like it was the plague and avoided it as such. Win 7 is amazing in comparison though. It did take me a little while to get used to the slightly newer configuration and they tended to hide a lot of the useful things but mainly that was so people who didn't really know what they were doing couldn't mess things up as easily.
Agreed.

I was a big XP fan (still run it on 3 computers) but I got a free (legal!) copy of Vista a year ago when I built my current #1 computer, hated Vista 64, and took advantage of MS's half-price upgrade to Win7 64-bit last year (~$98 or so).  Win7 64 is pretty good, and I'd recommend it, especially for new systems.

Yeah I'm having crashes quite often someday it takes a hr and i get the memory leak error, I have seen a few games have this issue well into the games release such as Crimecraft its something whit the in game code, in other games i cranked up my virtual memory even tho i have 8 gigs its somehow resolved the issue for me I'm about to try it for this game, but I've also been getting other random crashes with no error, I'm trying messing around with game options to see if i can resolve or find out the cause of these issues see if i can figure out a quick fix ill keep u posted but yeah I'm using Nvidia & Intel

BTW does anyone know what operating system they test this game on mainly, they still running vista over there cause i noticed all those Stardock applications like Windows Blinds & a couple other ones ive tried getting weren't windows 7 compatible till recently or still aren't (Don't quote me on accuracy been a least a few months since i looked at them) But has anyone known anyone playing on Vista 32 & or 64 and how there performance is with crashes/bugs i got every OS at my disposal so ill just slap a different one on if need be.

BTW Vista isnt quite as bad as long as you disable superfetch and set prefetch to 1 setting, i had a lot of gaming issues when superfetch was enabled on vista, as of at least a year ago or so since i used it, or at least setting superfetch to 1, (superfetch & prefetch can adjust settings in registry with values from 0-3 , there both at 3 by default , i set it to superfetch 0 and prefetch 1 or 2 , Google it if u want roe info I'm lazy)

Windows 7 x64 & x86 Enterprise Legit Dual Boot (Same issues on both seems to crash more on 32 bit version)

All Windows updates & Graphics & Hardware updates installed bios to.
