Game won't run

Hello. I've just purchased this game and have run into a little problem. I created my Impulse and Stardock account and entered my serial number, which I have verified is entered using the "Verify Registration" option when right-clicking the product in the My Games tab on Impulse. However, every time I try starting the game, it brings up a window titled "Stardock Product Activation" and asks for my email and serial number. Whenever I try inputting these, I get an error message saying "Stardock's activation program could not communicate with the server. This may be caused by a firewall blocking Internet access, please check your settings and network permissions.", as well as opening a notepad document that I will post below, and proceeds to ask if I would like to activate by email. I have already sent this email, but I am still put off by the fact that I would have to wait at least two days before getting a chance to play the game. I have also verified that my firewalls include all software pertaining to the game and Impulse. If anyone can give me some insight as to how I can fix this problem more quickly I would greatly appreciate it.

Please ensure the serial number entered is associated with the email you used. Try to activate the product again. If using Impulse you can right-click on the product and re-activate. Include this log file if contacting support.

they can tell you exactly how to fix it. You should be able to still play it AFAIK. If nothing else uninstall it and download straight from Impluse since you already have verified it there.

Thank you, I'll do that asap. But just to clarify, I have tried playing it directly from Windows and not Impulse, but regardless of how I open it I get the same result. I would have been satisfied with the single-player mode while waiting for activation, but if I can avoid that delay that would be even better.

I managed to fix my problem. Impulse was using Internet Explorer proxy information by default. I fixed this by opening Internet Explorer and changing the privacy setting in "Internet Options" in the Tools menu to "accept all cookies". This allowed Impulse to run the game with no problems. I would post this in a more suitable location for anyone experiencing a problem similar to mine, but I'm new to this site and don't know where that would be. If anyone can forward this information to a more convenient post, that would be great.
