Get a decent KVM (with fast-switching), buy/build some racks to hold all of that expensive-looking equipment OFF OF THE FLOOR and away from the desk so you can actually put your legs under there (I'm 6'2" and I'd never be able to stand sitting at your desk....hehe)

You can buy extension cables for any mouse/keyboard/monitor cable so you could almost move most of that equipment halfway across the room from the desk (plus keeping it all nice and tidy on its own shelf/rack).

I've got the answer.....

You guys don't understand the genius of my system do you?  All the monitors are needed as I multitask with them.  The touchscreen at the far left is vital, I use it to open programs.  Imagine for a second, one press of a monitor, I can open IE/chrome/opera/firefox on my main monitor, outlook 2007/word 2007 on the bottom right, and powerpoint at the top right.  I got it set up in a highly efficient manner.

And btw, I did seriously ask how to get room (WITHOUT GETTING RID OF MONITORS!).  Nobody gave a realistic idea, except for the printer one.

I understand completely where your coming from, although i think i have more stuff, i moved all my stuff to the basement, did a little carpentry, bought some of thos folding tables, some carpet, a carpet runner for the new desktop, mounted all the monitors, and i am still not done, but i had to do something the amount of the stuff is incredible, i will send you some pics when my mess is actually worth photographing

Btw, why are people talking about kv/m switches?  Nothing is connected to each other, and they don't need to be.  The pc on the floor at the right is the one on the wall, it's a linux file server.  the imac is by itself.  The pc at the left is a core i7 with 5750 and 5770 crossfire, it controls the 4 monitors on the left.

OK...let's get a sense of reality here...... exactly how often do you open a proggy.....PARTICULARLY when you appear so anal about multi monitors that you clearly don't ever CLOSE a proggy?

Short of building an entirely new office to house all that junk...there's really no other solution.

A little hard to tell space wise, if have the room maybe some brackets or shelves off the sides to the keyboard shelf or table legs to get the speakers and phone off the desk.

Did I specifically SAY one program per monitor?  Or did I say multiple programs per monitors and powerpoint on 1?

The idea is to have more space for more efficient use of my time.  Thanks for calling what I have junk and a mess though.  You have been very unhelpful.

Btw boys and girls, I've always excelled at multitasking, not to mention a steel photographic memory and extremely good peripheral vision combined with very good depth perception.  The more I have to focus on, the more I can accomplish.

THAT part is absurd.

We are all about GUI customizing...that means methods of program launching....you know...like a dozen icons on the side of a screen that can launch...a dozen programs...if you MUST then spread those all over multiple monitors then go for it...but a SEPARATE one just for the icons/launch/touchscreen?

Hint....it's NOT more efficient to...

let go of a mouse....touch a screen...pick up mouse...work with program

than

hold mouse...click icon....work with program.

For years I used Litestep and its simple Virtual Desktops which pretty much did away with any need for more than one screen.

If one of those boxes is a server...it can go in another room...or a cupboard....anywhere else but your workspace.

Multi-tasking isn't a how-much-crap-can-I-put-in-a-workspace trial ...it's about ease of use, not clutter.

I am so thankful for your concern.  That's why I have my touchscreen set up to where I can use my left hand and still hold my mouse.  If you had eyes you may notice that...

Btw, I do also use the touchscreen for digital handwriting.  Not as much use as the other screens but I DO use it for more then just opening applications.

OK...so the issue is you have a lot of stuff....and no logical functionality of its use of space.

Maybe you need to look at the logic behind the setting of a drumkit....or a pilot's cockpit.

Chances are it's a lost cause because you have no apparent flexibility in regards to the options of problem resolution.

You do not have enough space for that stuff.

Solution....

Make more space.

I'll type it slowly just so you don't miss the point....get a bigger desk...if it's a single-person workstation you need to be able to see and do/access everything with a minimum of movement/relocation...so it's simple ergonomics.

Bolt yourself to a chair.

Anything outside of your reach is useless.

Move it so it is within reach.

If your arms are short you will need to arrange things in tiers [likewise think synthesizer keyboards - they are tiered].

Only other options are to grow more arms...or hire a lackey to reach the bits you can't...;)

Actually I do have enough room, I'm just looking for better methods of handling said room.  Also the imac is kinda fenced in, I think added an end table for the printer may solve everything.

Umm...Re-read mine and the Monk's before committing to this...We both suggested ways that you keep the monitors and get more space.

If all you think you need to do is move a printer then it's a lost cause.

The workspace appears to be a jerry-rigged abomination of disparate bits...all vainly vying for your attention...;)

I just went through the process of redesigning my office space...to be as functional/effective as possible....the main design parameters were the accommodation of...

Plan drawers.

1000mm X 1500mm drawing board.

A3 Photocopier.

Computer with rear access for cabling/changes.

22" monitor [just the one...I only have one pair of eyes]

Conference desk.

 2 printers

Scanner

Fax

stationery drawers

Filing cabinet

bookshelves

Phone/answer machine.

UPS

Sound system.

Pegboard [cork].

Room for it was/is 9ft x 12ft.... but it fits [with space for the driving sim Gameseat].  It took all up about 4 sheets of 1200x2400 19mm MDF and a bit of time....and a lot of thought.

At the risk of offending the OP (here's hoping he doesn't take offence and simply takes my comments for what they are...."comments") I'm beginning to think (after reading the replies he's received and his counters to said replies) that he wasn't entirely truthful in the premise/purpose of this thread.

Seems to me a little like one of those "hey will my PC run X game at X settings?!?" threads when the real purpose of some of those threads is to show up someone eles's system specs.

Now I could be WAAAAAAY off with my assumption here (and yes I know I'm making an assumption here) but just read this thread over again from start to finish, something just strikes me as a little off.  Add in the pictures and it really seems "off".  I mean to say just look at the picture near the bottom of page 1, the mess of cables, the dust on a few of the surfaces, the "shelf" with living-roomy-knick-knacks on it all scream "disorganized-equipment-for-the-sake-of-having-equipment-stuffed-into-a-room-where-it-doesn't-belong" doesn't seem to lend any credence to the plea of the OP.   Especially since his main reply to suggestions has been "no I won't get rid of anything.." ?
