How can i get a refund for this ASAP?

Impulse is listed in the requirements for installing ObjectDock.

I would expect that within the 'thousands of software titles over the years' you will have encountered Program installers/downloaders/updaters before....which is specifically the function/s of Impulse.

Impulse should not 'completely mess up your machine' as it is a tried and tested program currently used by millions.

Re-install Impulse, allow it to update and retry your ObjectDock download/install.

If you continue to have issues I'd suggest contacting [email protected] or post more specifics pertaining to your error/s here for others to assist...;)

In that case then i will contact support to get a refund, or charge it back through my bank. There is no way known i'd even attempt to install "Impulse" again, i purchased Object Dock and not Impulse. It seems more like some sort of adware/malware and definitely not something i'd want on my system.

When you purchased ObjectDock the Installation via Impulse was listed as a requirement.

It is NOT 'adware/malware'.  It is the Specific Installer for the software you purchased [and all other Stardock products].

Once installed and used to Install/register your software it can be subsequently uninstalled IF you wish NOT to have access to product updates/revisions, which will leave your purchased software functioning albeit without product updates.  It's probably important to note that Object Dock 2 Beta has just been made available which has improved functionality and support for Current OS versions, Including 64bit, so it would be wise to retain the facility for accessing revisions....;)

I don't understand why people think Impulse is bad. There's nothing about it that even resembles adware.

Don't know what you call adware, but I've had it popup an ad for some sort of game software one time. After that I close the program and don't see it until  reboot ('bout once a week). Jafo, I suspect you guys use Impulse to thwart piracy, but I just did a google for "descapes" and saw many sites listing cracks, etc. for the program. Impulse is not just about piracy. It's about convenience. It works in a similar fashion to Valve's Steam (for games). It allows you to store and manage all of your Stardock Applications.

It is not adware or spyware. 

It's Adware, shortly before it froze i had ads coming out of my taskbar for something completely unrelated to the application i purchased. It's an unwanted and non-essential program.

It also totally messed up my dock that had been working for 3 years, so i have paid for 2 docks and now got none i will NOT use a Stardock product again. This sort of rubbish is a discredit to the software industry, i paid for an application i want to download it, punch in my serial or whatever and use the flipping thing!

Here i am 8 hours later, no software, the way i have used my system for the last 3 years is destroyed, money gone and a company insisting i install their Adware on my system and a waste of a day when i have much better things to do.

No thanks, there is docks i can download instantly for free which i'll be doing once "support" finally get back to me with my refund.

SpikeSpika ...once more I repeat...Impulse is REQUIRED for the download/install Of ObjectDock.

It is NOT adware, or any similar such product.

It is both 'wanted' AND 'essential'. It is the program's Installer.

If you will not accept the requirements of the product installation process then be mindfull of the limitations of the Official Refund policy'

To repeat, Stardock's Impulse and ObjectDock programs are universally accepted and acknowledged as market leaders within the field of GUI customizing/modification practises...so much so that Microsoft recognizes Stardock as a Gold Partner.

You do NOT get such association without stringent quality standards.

If you CANNOT/will not use Impulse to correctly install your software then you are not complying with the requirements of the software's installation and thus will likely not qualify for a refund.

To turn that sucker off, go into Impulse

Leftclick on top left menu item dropdown, the square thing or whatever

Select "Preferences"

Click on "General" on left side

Underneath "General" on right side, uncheck "Load Impulse Now on Startup", click "ok" button.

Might have to exit Impulse, maybe close the little systray icon after that, but it shouldn't come back.  You CAN turn it off, 1st thing I do.

You can click settings and TURN OFF the pop-ups for new programs. Try THAT with ADWARE.

I don't understand why people who seem so paranoid to begin with don't investigate what they are downloading first to see that it is safe or not...or bother to look carefully at what they have downloaded to see that they can adjust the settings and customize it to their liking. The first place they come is here to pitch a fit and bad mouth something they haven't had on their computer for more than a day or two.

What is showing is just special promotions via Impulse Now.  Both the promotions and/or Impulse Now can easily be turned off in the settings menu.

I never even made it to that screen .  Obviously they put a fair amount of effort into making it pretty configurable, that's nice.

I don't understand what's so hard about reading the first post so let me bold it "i have spent hours trying to do system restore and either get it off my machine or get it on my machine so i can get the software i paid for."

The thing is CORRUPTED and it now WILL NOT INSTALL. This bloatware seems to have littered my registry with over 1,000 keys.

I paid for a simple software update, i should not have to spend all day picking the pieces of a broken and bloated "advertising platform" out of my machine.

I'm done with Stardock and will warn all others about this, i have installed a free dock which was painless and i was up and running in minutes.

No reply from "support" so i'll lodge a chargeback through my bank.

It appears that one way or another you have a corrupted download and/or install which is both unfortunate and not specifically attributable to the software itself, only this particular attempt at its install.

You will need to contact [email protected]  [noting that currently it is the Easter break so there will be an extended wait] to qualify for terms pertaining to Stardock's Refund Policy.

Again, Impulse is neither [in itself] "broken" nor "bloated".  It is your attempt to install which apparently was "broken".  How you attempt to resolve that outside of appropriate assistance/support is also outside of Stardock's control.

ok ill be plain and simple, i did an experiment, my son is 6 yrs old (and has is own computer) all i did was give him the web address and told him what to download. he did it, installed it, used my stardock account and went crazy installing my software to make his computer as cool as daddy's. if a first grader can do it flawlessly, and figure out how to configure object dock 2.0, windowblinds, icon and sound packager, then you are the problem. i have been using stardock software since 1998, have been an object desktop subscriber since day one,and impulse is great. of every software vendor i have ever seen, this company makes the most stable release software i have ever seen. so you are either the problem, or have a really piece of crap machine.

on a side note Jafo and id, one small problem with the new objectdock is when you drag an icon off to delete it, it makes the program open.

Sorry you had so many problems with your computer.  I know how frustrating it can be to have to do a reinstall.    I have never had a pop up of any kind from Impulse (EVER)... and I have had it since it was born.  I can't tell you how much fun I have had with my Object Desktop over the years.  Don't give up.   

May be you have another more serious problem going on with your computer.  Impulse is not adware and I am so sure you would love Object Dock Plus.  You just need to reinstall Impulse and let it update and then install OD Plus.    

sorry to hear about the problems you have had trying to install Objectdock. I dp think stardock needs to rethink the policy of requiring users to install and use impulse to get the software they have paid for. Maybe in the receipt that gets emailed after you purchase there could be a link to download and install impulse if thats what the person wants to do, AND another link to download the standalone installer just for the program they have purchased. I think this would be a fairer and more productive way to do it as many users seems to feel that they are forced into using a program that they don't want to use in order to get the software they legitimatley paid for. Myself i use impulse because i find it more convenient but i am sure there are a lot of people who think differently and thats their choice, Therefore they should be given a choise of whether to install impulse or just get the installer for the program they bought. it would save a lot of hassles and angry emails to support.
