Thank You for 2.0!

Thank You for 2.0!

I for one wish to thank Brad, Jeff and whoever else was involved in getting ObjectDock 2.0 to the point where it could be released! I just downloaded it and am very excited about it!

I also wanted to thank the team for a couple of specific things:

1. Thank you for the new True stretch feature. Without this feature (like in 1.9) docks pictured below would look choppy, but now they are smooth.

2. A personal thank you for including the Caliginous dock with the program. I am honored to have been able to contribute here. That was one of my earliest docks. :)

One thing that I believe is necessary is to natively include the Stacks docklet. I already have it saved, so it's not a big deal to just copy it over; but it would be nice to not have to.

Right Click has soemthing like this although not the jump list feature.

Yes, but RC doesn't play well with W7...

I uninstalled 1.9 then installed 2...my saved themes were waiting and the active one loaded with 2 new docks

Well....on x64 that's true....BUT......Jafo got his running and said he had disabled the firewall (and anti-stuff) while installing so I tried it again, put an exception in the firewall for it and now it works. I don't know why it needs a firewall exception but as long as it works I'm happy. It uses only default icons for exe shortcuts but does show folder icons for special folders.

I initially mentioned it to show the technology is available.

Download the stacks docklet here:

It seems as though, with zoomers, the reflection commands have to be written into the code for that particular dock. Apparently though, tabs can enable reflections regardless.

Maybe Jeff can shed some light on this...

Thanks, Lantec! I'm gonna try that!

For zooming docks only certain skins have reflection. May be adding option whereby you could add a configurable reflection to existing skins / tweak the reflections on skins that already have them.

Just to remind people the Stacks docklet is a 3rd party docklet, not something included with ObjectDock.

it would be awesome if you could chose reflections for specific icons since there are a lot of icons that are already reflective on the net. This way you could add icons to your dock that are not reflective yet.......

Well, it loaded my previous monster 6 dock three monitor config just fine, only breaking on the stacks docklet custom icons...which have always been touchy.  8)

The ghost effect is very interesting.  Not sure if I am going to use it or not, but...very nice new feature.

Reflections need to be added to default zoomers, of course.  This would also allow them to be dialed in separately from the background.  For example, I have configs where I'd like to keep the reflections but turn the background dock 100% transparent/completely invisible.

There's a new bug with my multimon setup, in that the monitor selection for zoomers breaks.  Even though all three monitors show up in the popup menu, only the 1st (primary, graphics card 1) and the third monitor (graphics card 2) can be assigned to zoomers.  When I try to select monitor 2 (secondary, graphics card 1), the zoomer pops to the third monitor.

Interestingly, since my config was created with the previous version of ObjectDock Plus, all of my monitor 2 zoomers are currently still on monitor 2 and work just fine.   It's just that I know I won't be able to move them off and then on again.

The same bug exists with tabbed docks, but since you can drag a tabbed dock, you can workaround this to get everything in the right place.  Since you can't drag a zoomer, this option doesn't work yet.  The only other workaround would be editing the .ini file, I assume.

And the old bug for multimonitor setups is still here, re: if my mouse is on the primary monitor, everything loads fine, but if my mouse is on any other monitor, any tabbed docks on the primary monitor appear on the secondary monitor.  The workaround is to immediately quit objectdock and reload it, this time with the mouse hovering over the primary.

All in all though, I like the new config, the program seems to be much faster, reflections are pretty (looking forward to dialing them in), etc. etc.  Well done!

PS I am running on Windows 7 x64 btw.

Okay, then here's an "outside the box" idea:

For one, I've always thought it was hokey to have your start menu just kind of pop up above your dock when using a launcher. Just my opinion. I think it looks wierd when out of place (ie- normal windows position).

What if, instead of the actual start menu, there were a type of start menu launcher that displays your start menu items, without displaying the actual start menu? Half similar maybe to the W7 jump lists or something.

Don't even know if it's possible, just thought I'd throw that out there.

I guess I think outside of the box too....I've thought about the same thing, We really don't need the menu, just the stuff on it!

That "out of the box" idea is called WinStep, guys. Take a look at the 'start menu' generated from the start menu icon in the NeXuS dock....I think that's what you're describing?

Stacks docklet doesn't work well for me as the Stacks open on top of the dock. That is not very usable as I have the dock at the top and some settings that have been there in 1.9 are missing...

not included because stardock is going to implement subdocks which are better than stacks, right?  right?  please?
