Unfortunately, the 'public' folders are here to stay... and I emphasised the "unfortunately' because it is one of my pet peeves about Win 7 (and other Windows edition) also. It totally pisses me off that I have all these redundant folders taking up space on my drive, and every so often Windows will decide to put something of MINE in a public folder. Stardock does it too.... and there is NO PUBLIC on my PC... just me.
I've often said that an option should be available at installation to exclude the public folders if the PC is for a single user. In fact, I think it would be better to have all installations set as single user by default... with the option to add other users if so required.
i agree starkers, its really annoying. shame we cant just delete them lol
I absolutely agree. Installation can be customized as we see with many items of software. Senility struck me, Cap'n. I never thought to expand that horizon to the OS.
"starkers for CEO of Microsoft!"
I dunno about that! CEO of a nice litthe bordello near Parliament House in Canberra would do me nicely, though.
That way I'd get back some of my tax dollars from over the years.

If you just want to remove Public Docs from the Doc Library in Win7 open the Documents Library. At the top it says "Includes: 2 locations" Click on it and you'll see an option to take the Public Docs out of that library.Hope this helps.
thanx wizard i will give it a go ![]()
This partly resolves it, but for single user PC's the 'public' anything doesn't need to be there... and Windows doesn't allow you to delete it. That's why I think MS should exclude public folders at installation by default, with the option to add them should the PC be a multi-user machine.
Public be buggered! I catch anyone public on my rig and they're in seriously deep doo-doo. I have some exquisitely delightful tortures for anyone caught using my machine, one including honey, ropes, tent pegs... and a bull ants nest out back. Another, for repeat offenders, is to spin them around so fast in my chair that they get really, really, really dizzy... then they're stood stark bollock naked on a nearby racetrack and told to dodge the horses.
Now see, this is all Microsoft's doing.... and if anybody gets hurt it's ALL Microsoft's fault.

just one more mini gripe - when i delete images they stay on the desktop til i refresh, rather defeats the idea of deleting them
defeats the idea of showering, too. ![]()
I think we, as discerning customers of Microsoft, should petition the bastards to include a 'get rid of public folders on single user machines' option in Win 7's SP1 and Vista's SP3. Bugger XP, anybody clinging on to that dinosaur deserves public folders.
