SoSE Trinity

I just bought SoSE Trinity last night at Walmat. I am a complete noob at this. I started to read the Beginner's Guide by Morthion but stopped when he stated the expansions are not included in his guide. Will his guide still be useful for me?

Here are my basic assumptions:

1. Single player

2. Trinity version

I'm looking at the manual and I don't see where I select the core game or one of the expansions. Therefore does that mean all of the expansion functionality is all wrapped up into the core game?

Anyway, playing as the TEC faction, what are the best settings and strategy? This is what I know from reading the forums so far:

1. Turn off Pirates

2. Do not buy the Kol Battleship

I'm looking for strategy for how to deal with Economy, Colonizing, Research, ya know basic stuff.

Thanks!

Not sure, but I doubt it.  Bombers and Ogrovs are your best bet.  Like I said, 12+ squadrons will cover it, or about 4 Ogrovs.

I did something wrong then. I had 12 Ogrovs and they were quickly wiped out by the platforms. In fact, they got wiped out so fast I didn't have time to retreat. I used Ogrovs on the planet after the platforms were gone and yes they made short work of that.

Not Krosovs, Ogrovs.  (Or Orgrovs???  Not quite sure on the spelling)  Ogrovs can only attack buildings.  Krosovs?  Don't waste your time on these, they are not worth the supply cost, for only a bombing use.

Also, do not bring in Ogrovs until th pirate fleet is gone, or they will die.  Without fail.

And don't forget to colonize the pirate base.  Once you research the TEC's aditional logistics slots, they can accomodate a factory, which will usually become your main shipyard since pirates tend to be near the center of the map.

I think it was Ogrovs... but now I'm not so sure.

If you bombed the planet, then it wasn't.  Only Siege Frigates and Capitol ships can bomb a planet.  And for TEC, Krosov is the Siege Frigate, which is about as useless against other ships as a Scout...Almost.

Siege Frigates and Capitol ships can bomb a planet.

Advent Starbases can bomb a planet too

Huh, I didn't know that.  I don' play advent tho.

So...How do they do that?

Researching Meteroid Control gives the Transcencia Star Base both Meteor Storm and Final Judgement. Final Judgement damages planet health and population.

Sweet.  I'ma have to check that out.

Okay, here is a really stupid question: where is the "scuttle button"? I see in the manual where I can scuttle structures to make room for something else, but I just can't find the button.

hard to find - it's thin and disguised, at the very bottom of the center of the UI, attached to the UI.  You can also just hit shift-S.

THe long striped button under the picture at the bottom.

Update on my progress: Thanks to everyone's great advice I have not been defeated in 3 games against the AI. I am up to normal level on medium maps with 3 other factions. I like to pick 1 of each faction. I was thinking about going wild on my next game with a large map and 7-8 opponents.

A couple of novice observations:

1. I tend to play in the overhead view perspective looking at icons. Is that typical?

2. The AI is good, but it seems pretty sensitive about losing cap ships.
