Drath or Dread?

Right now, I have a bit of a problem in the game.  I'm playing as the Yor Collective in the tiniest map setting, I have basically no standing military except for what I can rush buy (Thankfully, I have an income of something around 2,000 BC per turn), because the ridiculously powerful Drath Legion has several fleets and a precursor ship with hundreds of attack points in each category running around blowing up my things.  With that background, here's what I'm asking advice for:

I just found a class 39 world.  This is, needless to say, something that I want.  The problem is that it's just been inhabited by the Dread Lords who materialized in some event a while back (Can't go back that many saves.), and that it's also right in the middle of Drath territory.  I can rush buy several transports and fighters from my nearby worlds and sneak some through Drath defenses to invade before the Dread Lords arm themselves more capably, but then the low starting population is apt to have its brains invaded out by the Drath, and I wouldn't be able to put up another attempt for a while.  If I wait a little while, the Drath are going to have their powerful military slaughtered by the Dread Lords, but unfortunately that means letting Dread Lords actually develop, and since it'd take me a while to research the techs to beat their military, they'd be developing a world with potentially 38 factories all pumping out ships.

Should I be trying to invade now, or do you all think I should wait?

Ok? Try both, plan out two save points one for each mission and see which one works. Or I think that you should build up forces and get high tech and take planets toward Dread Lords. More likly you will take out Drath before Dread Lords do anything.

Are you in a Empire? We looking for some Brave Hearts? What to learn more, Check out My Empire Adepta Sororitas link below?

This is a pretty difficult question, and without knowing about the other stats/setup/version of your game, I might propose something that could probably not viable to you.

Without any real Military the only answer can be to get out of war ASAP. Built up your planets to max pop, get some good soldiering and harvest empty hulls for a final upgrade.

Usually if there are stronger AI's present in a game then it is always the best to let them fight it out until their strengths is drained. Maybe the arrivial of the DL is your advantage. If they could battle against the Drath this would give you the time to built up your empire/military.

However, you need to pay close attention which one of them will be winning - and once one side is knocked out jump into the war and take that weak AI over.

In case that the DL survive and you won't be able to destroy their Defenders simply max out your planetary pop, and focus on getting a strong soldiering. Usually then the DL won't be able to invade your worlds even if they do have space superiority.

And once you have most planets under your control this should give you enough research potential to get to the end-tier branches sometimes, and esp. with huge hulls, alot of speed and a good ATT/DEF-ratio the DL's will be history. They usually leave ony 2 or 3 Defenders in orbit and stuff their fleets near their planet. And you can lure these ships away by simply bulding a base somewhere in the corner of the map, and once these ships are gone simply destroy the Defenders and invade their world.

@Maiden666, That's what I said but you said better,   that is kool we think alike.

So wait and build up forces and keep an eye on those Dread Lords. Can you get the Drath to attack the Dread Lords?

AFAIK the Dread Lords are at war with everybody automatically and unchangeably.

Question is: Could you *ally* with them? :dur:

Hi!

Back in my days when DA was new ;) it was possible for AIs to make peace with DLs. And one player posted a (likely) game glitch: when he clicked on the announcement of peace proclamation, he actually got to talk with DLs!

I was able to repeat it. I don't know if that was fixed in later releases.

Wow, this is very interesting. I hitherto knew that the AI's (internally) did deal with the Dread Lords, as one time in my game they actually did buy (or got gifted) a Troop Transport from their allies, the Korath. That Transport lifted away from the Korath planet then containing ~1000b (!) DL-Troops. I learned that the hard way when one of my planets got invaded by them. Usually a DL planet will contain no more than 20m people. The rise of this SuperPop-DL planet gave rise to my defeat, without SporeSA or any serious chance of getting a T-star to destroy the system all future hopes for invasion was doomed.

Nevertheless, I've hitherto assumed no diplomacy-contact could be possibly established with them - because they would become a good source of end-tier techs.

So you got to talk to them, too? What kind of picture was used for them? How was their status of techs/bc's? Could you establish peace, and/or gift something to them to better up your relations?

Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately, this has all been rendered irrelevant because a couple of turns after preparing the invasion forces, it turns out that my allies the Korx had a massive invasion fleet just out of my sensor range and took the planet anyway.  Go figure.

No picture, what was even more scarry. I only remember I've sued for peace and they accepted. The rest's gone with the time.
