Ah, that would explain the sometimes 'naughty' comments... 20 years is a long time.   :X ;P

20 years is a long time.

If you've ever been to Chesterfield, 20 years is not long enough. Even the church spire is bent...

Can't say that I ever made it to Chesterfield... farthest North I can remember going (from Devon) was Coventry in '68 - '69.  My mother's sister lives there.

As I recall, there wasn't a spire on the catherdal at the time... was being still being built after the old Coventry Cathedral had been badly damaged during WWII.

Chesterfield..........isnt that where they make over-stuffed, over-priced sofas?

Geez...you guys don't get around much....piddly little country and there are bits you haven't been to?

Mate and I once ducked out in the car for a coffee....in Bright.

We set off from Melbourne.

That's 192 miles one way.

Where would 384 miles get you in England? [apart from your feet wet in most directions]....;)

Where would 384 miles get you in England?

Twice that from where I lived in Devon...  hmmm, would get you three parts of the way to Fuzzy's. ;)

One way, it would get me to Cornwall in one direction, Scotland in the other.

On yer way through Devon, then, stop off n' have a pint o' scrumpy at one of me fav'rite waterin' 'oles... Widecombe Tavern.

"Tom Pierce, Tom Pierce, lend me yer grey mare

All along down along out along lee.

For I wants to go to Widecombe fair

With Will Brewer, Jan Stewer, Peter Gurney, Peter Davey Dan'l Whiddon,

Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all, Old uncle Tom Cobley and all...."

Ah, those were the days!  Get a few scrumpies under the belt, me and me mates, and we'd bellow that out fer tha grockles... er, tourists.

:D

All I remember about Devon is traffic queues at Okehampton.

All I remember about Devon is traffic queues at Okehampton.

T'was 41 years ago when I left the Old Dart for Oz, and I remember traffic queues were common in most Devonshire towns.... it was the piddling streets, trying to cope with cars when they were designed with a horse and cart in mind.

Hmmm. if I can get a few medical issues sorted, I wouldn't mind going back there for a holiday, just to refresh the memory a bit and catch up with a few old friends and relatives.

384 miles would get you no where near where i live  lol
