for example, i type multiplicity lag in the search bar, i get a bunch of unrelated returns that have nothing to do with multiplicity, but in the text you see multiplicity 1.24 released.  whats up with that?

You can use the google site specific tag to search only a specific forum or subforum by using the following string.

gop site:https://forums.stardock.com/forum/412

this searches only the Off-topic forum i.e. /forum/412 at the Stardock site i.e. forums.Stardock.com for the string "gop" and finds my thread "The GOP Plan" that's in the Off-topic forum.

To use this you do need to understand a bit about how Stardock's forum structure is laid out.

In your example I have no idea where the multiplicity forum is but if you can navigate to it the url in your browser will give you the forum or subforum number. For example I'm on the Stardock site and I navigate to the Home > Object Desktop > WindowBlinds subforum and my broswer points to https://forums.stardock.com/forum/167 which is the WindowBlinds subforum on the Stardock site.

This will be the similar on other Stardock sites that also have access to the WindowBlinds subforum. For example on the Wincustomize site the WindowBlinds subforum is accessible at the slightly different path of  Home > Stardock Support > Object Desktop > WindowBlinds but the syntax to access that subforum from Wincustomize is the same https://forums.wincustomize.com/forum/167.

However not all forums are accessible from all Stardock sites and this syntax won't work on sites that have no access to the particular subforum.

There are plans to re-create our search so it is more accurate, does not rely on Google's search, and allows for advanced searching, but it is still a ways away.  For now, I would follow what Mumblefratz said in relation to doing a site-specific search on Google.

ok, thats all great, but i also find it hard to find the forum i need, sometimes i have to browse 3 different sites to find it, stardock, wincustomize or impulse.  i will try that next time.  thanks.

What's wincustomizetest? I'm not familiar with that site. Perhaps google doesn't search that site, I don't know

If you use "chrome site:https://forums.wincustomize.com/forum/503" then you get matches.

I also tried chrome site:https://forums.joeuser.com/forum/503 and chrome site:https://forums.galciv2.com/forum/503 and got different matches so you can't always count on getting the same thing.

That's why the old forum search was superior in my mind. It wasn't as flexible as google search but it did seem to be deterministic and very good at searching for post or replies by specific users.

well, it looks as though the new site broke it even more, now i use your suggestion, and search this outlook 2010 site:https://forums.wincustomize.com/forum/36

it brings up a post, i click on it and it just takes me to the forum, not the thread, so searching is useless

oh yea, btw, it doesnt' even return other posts that have outlook 2010 in the title, so whats the point of even bothering to use the search function at this point?

Unfortunately, Google searches are out of our control.  There are plans to look into a forum search that is built-in and not reliant on Google, but that is a while away.  Sorry.
