Internet TV, is it worth the money?

Came across another one of those ads/promos for software for direct streaming of Internet TV to your PC.  It's called Stream Direct and looks like most of the others out there.  Like the others out there you pay for the software and that's it, no hardware other than your computer and iinternet access.  Probably very little support also.  For some reason the link puts you at the bottom of the page so scroll up and you can exit out just follow the prompts.

Yes, I have access to over the air broadcast local TV and also have Dish Network Satellite TV.  A person has to keep busy.

The real reason I'm interested in this is so I can be able to say 'I have over a thousand channels and there still isn't anything to watch'.  :O :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Actually I want access to TV from other english speaking countries like Canada and England.

If you use FireFox, there is an Add-on to watch hundreds of channels from around the world. It is called TV-Fox. Try this before you spend any money....

Which brings up a very good point.  I wonder if there is also such an add-on for IE? :S

The ABC in Australia has iview to show TV programs on the net. They do have some BBC stuff.

Hey Philly, I have an internet TV proggie called DTV4PC, and let's just say that I'm glad it came free with another purchase.  Had I actually paid for it I would be very disappointed because there's very little content on there I would want to watch, and what there is that might interest me comes on at some awful hour when I'd rather be asleep.  However, that's not the worst of it!  Quite a few of the channels that look like they might be worth watching are in fact subscriber channels... meaning it's more bucks up front if you want to watch something half decent.

The other thing is that you need pretty decent internet speeds, otherwise the picture and sound frequently break up and you miss more than you get to see/hear.  So yeah, high speed internet is imperative if you want to enjoy it.

I suggest you try out a freebie for connection issues, etc, before you part with any cash.  Here's one  you can try and it won't cost you a cent, just 4mb of download quota.

Thanks starkers, I use Major Geeks alot, forgot about checking there.  Downloaded Chris TV online free version.  Lots of channels that most folks probably woudn't watch.

As I recall, the BBC has an online TV service, as does the ABC (Oz), but I don't tknow if you'd be able to get either on your regular TV over the air.... distance, etc?  However, I have heard that the BBC has a US base of operations and that some BBC shows are aired there regularly.

"over the air" means you have to be within actual range of the transmitters...so, no, only in the country of origin...;)

What I was hoping to find was a internet link to be able to stream the over the air programs from Canada, etc. :sun:
