Stardock already does that.
Well Stardock doesn't tell companies what they can and can't do, but they do mention what should and should not be done. Stardock 100% needs to be clearer, upfront, proactive and detailed about the DRM on third party titles, and I mean as soon as it is on sale (pre-orders) not after the release and have forum members asking them why it's not posted yet.
Exactly! Just make it very clear what I'm buying. Don't sneek it in. Don't replace the drivers on my optical drive without giving me fair warning. Don't hide your little DRM scheme in the EULA and expect people to read it. Don't put it on your demos either you flipping morons. (Ubisoft & EA)
I picked up Starforce for the first time because of a fking demo. DRM on a demo is just insane.
A shame EA's real DRM scheme these days is to shut down multiplayer servers after extremely short periods of time. While I don't care much for sports games, they shut down the Madden 2009 servers as soon as Madden 2010 was released. Even if many people are going to migrate to the newer one, I kind of expect more than a year of multiplayer support for my $60 game.
Yeah EA server issues are not lost on me. They did it with Conquest too, fortunately, i heard what a pos game that was and avoided it like everyone else. It's unfortunate because once in awhile i would like a sports title for my console, but I would probably only ever buy one which makes the whole idea pointless since I would be locked out of the game in as soon as a years time.
