Impulse Weekly Roundup - March 5th

This week certainly seemed to go by quick, and here we are on another Friday getting ready to roundup the latest news and releases on Impulse from the past week.  The real exciting news this week was the exclusive release of Total Annihilation on Impulse.  This classic RTS has found a great home on Impulse, and will certainly lead the way for other classic games like this being added in the future.

Don't forget the Homeworld series!

I think everything from Homeworld 1 was released as open-source.  If that is true, that means Stardock can't legally sell it.

That is not true at all. Open source does not mean free. It just means that the source must be distributed with the binary. Besides, they could have released the source for the game without releasing the assets (e.g. images, sounds). That's what the developers of Freespace 2 did, and you can still buy Freespace 2 legally.

It (homeworld source) wasn't GPL'd (or released under any FOSS compatible license, i.e., it's not open source). It was released under an RDN license - free to modify/use for non-commercial use.  Relic retains the rights for the code released, and as well claims rights to use/distribute/sell anything produced with that code.

Since Relic changes their site organization periodically, the old links on RDN I have from DoW don't work. You can get the source, which includes the license terms, from google.

Get Bullfrog's old stuff!  I'd love to see Syndicate and Dungeon Keeper again.
