[1g][Feedback] Dynasties

Having families is pointless when the world ends

I was really curious to test dynasties as this is the biggest feature of the game.

So with 1G my feedback...

Ack! the world keeps ending! So far all I've been able to accomplish before game crash is getting married. That has happened only in one game and after 50+ turns hasn't happened in any of the others. No children yet... because the game keeps crashing!

I'm really hoping 1G will get a stability patch so we can test out the mechancis on this.

It's not just you. I have this same exact bug. I theorize, though I don't know for sure, that it's crashing because you're about to have a kid. I've gotten married every time, and it's always a little while after the marriage.

You could be right. I crashed just a few turns after getting married as well - too bad can't load save games.

So far all my children and all of those of other soveriegns have been girls...

Anyway, it would be useful to know the gender of the child when giving it a name.

I've had 3 kids, all girls too.  It did tell me their gender though.

Oh for a strong son to carry on my line!

In my only game so far I was married and had two sons.  If you thought the random name generator came up with some oddities for worlds, the kid names being pumped out are license to bullies everywhere to beat the crap out of them.

I think the random generated names for the sovereign were not any better. they are a bit too fantasiesh.

Well with 291 I can actually play a bit with dynasties.

My feedback right now is that everything seems like a rare random event. By the time I got married I could have my two opponents militarily had I chosen to.

I'd like the dynasty system to be more interactive and responsive early on. Something like if I park my sovereign in town I have a bonus in getting married or having kids. Maybe increased again if I build a palace. I'd like to be able to do SOMETHING to make stuff happen, or more likely to happen. A little more interactivity somehow.

In a couple of games that I've managed to complete with a victory, I've had up to 3 children, both girls and boys.  I've also seen both my oldest and the oldest child of Tarth grow to maturity, and I've seen the young Princess of Tarth wandering about.  In fact, after I attacked and killed her mother, I had to go after the Princess to end the game.  My oldest child did not become a unit I could move, although she could have been stuck in the city and I didn't notice.

Diplomacy options to arrange marriages among the children doesn't seem to be implemented.

OK, in my latest game I had a son (first born) come of age, and he showed up as unit in my capitol city.

FYI, for anyone following this thread, in my latest game my first born son came of age, I moved him out of my capitol, and joined him in my army with my sovereign.  Tarth declared war on me shortly afterwards, and even though I defeated 3 Tarth soldiers, 3 trolls, and the Tarth queen, only my sovereign seemed to gain any experience.

Question for the developers, if any are paying attention to this thread: Do any members of an army associated with a sovereign gain experience from battles, even a descendant, or is the sovereign the only one who gains experience?

Actually, after getting married, it will take at least 40 turns before you give birth to your first child, more if you are particularly unlucky that game.  It is also set so that you will not get married until at least 50 turns after the game has started.  These are just placeholder times to make sure that the events are considered "special," so you don't end up with dozens of child heroes running around about the time you finally research some good equipment for your designed units.  I think that, in the future, marriage will actually be quest-driven, and there will be ways to provide a bonus towards getting kids more quickly.

The way it is right now, only heroes get experience from a battle, while your trained units just send their experience on to the sovereign.  However, being that your kids ARE heroes, they should be getting experience...so it looks like you found a bug there :).  We'll look into fixing that.

The title of the pop up where you type in the child's name says "It's a boy"  or "It's a girl"

My custom sovereign is named Naba.  My eldest son, named Johol, has just come of age and joined me in my capitol.  However, when I bring up the tooltip for him, it seems to say his name is Naba, not Johol:

Is that a bug?

I played a game of more than 400 turns, and a few others a bit shorter, so I had plenty of children.

It seems the leader gets married by age 30. It aged beyond 90 (and so did his wife) but didn't die. I think my eldest son grew a white beard around age 50, which I think he didn't have at first, but I'm not sure...

Children become heroes when they grow up, but their stats are rather low (by the time I had some, my other units had 16 defense xD so "3" seems incredibly low...) and unfortunately they seem not to have traits, or at least I dunno where to read them.

I really wanted to marry one of my children with the AI's but it was always waging war at me and hence never once accepted to marry any of my princes/princesses xD

anyway I remain hopeful about the system ^^

the ai seems to like going to war with me and sending all its peasents to my towns to be cooked alive which is most funny but its really stupid.

Game will crash randomly for me and most of the time the saves are screwed from the crash.

doesn't say that for me i have to check the window where it shows the whole family then it says its a daughter or a son
