I'm not short of asking for a refund

How many hours can I spend on something so simple?

Ok guys, not impressed with this software at all. Here's why:

1) Tried shareware, liked it purchased it

2) No clear instructions on what to do after purchase/found out had to download something else (Impulse) that puts a load of gaming crap on my PC which I'm not interested in. Ok, activated.

3) Only one skin? Downloaded lots more, still only showing one skin.

4) Uninstalled and re-installed

5) Which means re-activating and rebooting

6) Now shows more skins, but says I'm not registered.

7) Registered app again with impulse

8) Blinds still says unregistered

9) Did software update

10) Another reboot

11) Now software is registered, I have more than one skin showing, but any skin chosen gives a wooden texture in the window backgrounds.

12) Clicked no textures

13) Stuck with a vista skin and a wooden tiled background (vile)

Now come on, it shouldn't be this messy or buggy after I've handed over cash for a product.

Why should I have to search through forums to fix what shouldn't be broken? Why should I have to look for how to register, let alone download something so I can register. And now I find out the license is only for a year.

Let's hear your responses, and I'm not far short of writing a damning review of this software for a major PC magazine. It acts like spyware (impulse etc). And a yearly fee for skinning windows ? come on..

However the last few days my PC has been locking up randomly, eventually freeing itself off after about 20 mins. Tried many things to fix it, and it looks like it's WB at fault. Since I've uninstalled it, I've had no further lock ups, so I can reasonably conclude it was that causing the problem.

That's why there was a request to copy/paste your specs...to demonstrate whether you may have a failed/faulty install of the software...and/or even whether your system was capable of handling Windowblinds at all.

That simple pasting would help you equally as much as it would those who were offering their help....;)

I have an arch enemy. You. Beeeyatch!

You begged us to blame him. No longer.

"I blame PoSmedley!"

I made a 'request' and it was for a particular instance.

You can't blame me for anything because according to Mother (God rest her soul), I am already to blame for everything. Get in line.

Guys....

When a thread is placed under the heading 'Stardock Support'....it's not the place/thread for all the photoshop 'fun' and related quirks.

The expectation is that it'll be 'support', whether it is directly FROM Stardock...or from the community [Stardock Users].

This is explained on the last page of the order.  The "gaming stuff" is just the Impulsedriven.com webpage loaded in Impulse.

4) Uninstalled and re-installed

5) Which means re-activating and rebooting

6) Now shows more skins, but says I'm not registered.

Uninstalling should not deactivate the software, unless it was uninstalled with something like Revo that would delete the sig7.bin file used to activate.

12) Clicked no textures

13) Stuck with a vista skin and a wooden tiled background (vile)

Something is still not right with this install.  Textures should only be applied on a per skin basis.  I would suggest uninstalling again, and then running this reg file that will clear the WindowBlinds settings:

http://sd.stardock.com/curthendzell/clear_wb_settings.reg

This will clear additional settings and should leave you with a clean slate to reinstall.

Now come on, it shouldn't be this messy or buggy after I've handed over cash for a product.

And for most people it isn't.  We're sorry your experience has been so difficult.

My bad. I didn't see the "Support" on the banner. Post edited.

So, spikeymikey....you gonna post the data from your "About Windowblinds" anytime soon? Any reason you've not done that yet despite all the requests?

I have a suggestion that may help in many cases when a software doesn't perform a clean install.

Use the built in windows System-Restore to roll the computer back in time. Then try again and use the knowledge you gained in the forums.

Go to Start/ All programs/ Accessories/ System tools/ System Tools/ System-Restore and see if there's a backup point just before the failed installation, normally Windows creates one automatically with every software install.

Positive attitude also helps to calm the software gremlins.

Unfortunately, System Restore only restores changes made to the system.  File and registry keys written by the software will not be affected by this.  The only thing that might be restored is the Windows Installer information, which may in fact help in some cases.

I have another suggestion.

A person should follow through on their thread and not waste the time of all the folks who offer help and advice. A simple copy and paste could possibly resolve the issue. Otherwise, it tends to make people leary the next time you need help. They start thinking things like 'Is this gonna be another waste of time' or 'is there another problem with the software they don't want to share in an open forum' etc.

Just my two cents.
