BSOD: Who is to be responsible?

i ho all,

here we go with another bsody story, or should i say my bsod(st)ory so far...

first i have to say "sorry" about my bad english, but i will try my best. here we go:

i played supreme commander a lot. i got many, many bsods there. i always thought it was because of my damn ati card (xp1950pro) or my asrock board at that time. i played a lot of ranked games and never got that high ranked due to all this damn bsods and connections losses. however, after some time i stopped playing supreme commander and my interested in demigod grows day by day. all those magazine reviews really rock. i purchased a copy and tried my luck. i played a while, lets say 15 to 30 minutes and was really impressed of the game. but then, ouch, i got a damn BSOD. hummm, the story continues the next few days... then i thought, ok lets update my equipment, the time is come and i want to be a happy gamer.
i bought a new board, a new gfx card, a new Os and all that stuff. i always assumed that now start a great time by playing without any trouble. but what the f**K, again a BSOD. i updated some drivers etc. and played again for a while. everything seems to be fine.
the next day i got, you can guess what, a BSOOOOD. after some research i recognized that many of you made this experience too... what a pitty, are we still beta testers of a great game!??!

well, who at stardocks can help me to find the true evil origin of this bsod?!?!? the screen says something with dxgmms1.sys
i tried to have a closer look with all this debug and related symbol stuff. but man, all this it's rather complex and i have not the time to go that deep to find the true reason out.

maybe someone in the support or a developer can say something about the following debug output. the origin seems to be directx, the ati drivers or simply the fact that everything run (still) in an erroneous game engine... i also could send the memory.dmp for a deeper analysis... any help or bug fixing is appreciated! thank you!!!

well after trying alot of stuff i am close to give up.

i bought a 2nd HD and moved back to winXPx86 prof. but there where also bsod issues..

as my last bsod was something with realtek.sys i got the hint about the /nosound switch from the impulse driven support.

i played the last two days with my win7x64 system and had no bosd's so far. is this really caused by a lousy sound driver or are there some real bad routines used within the game? it don't make sense to play this game without sound. i really don't have fun with it.

so my question is, will everything be cleared when i gonna buy a new soundcard and dont use this onboard thing anymore!?

what soundcard is the best for running with windows7x64 at the moment?

or do you think it wouldn't change anything!?

please let me know.

Just a note for the future

Updating your sound drivers with the ones on Realteks site would probably fix things

And DXdiag outputs would help a lot more than what you posted, as they tell us what hardware and drivers you're using.

hi, thank you for your reply!

i used the latest realtek drivers. now i got alot of very ugly clicks/pops during the game. however, first i thought the game runs more stable now. i played 3 times without any issues.

but what the hell, i quit the game, restart it a minute later to have one more match and got another BSOD in the main menu. very strangeeee.....

this time with an atipmdag.sys.

oh, by the way i use the latest ati drivers. any help and hint is appreciated!!!

Personally, my suggestion is to try disabling the system fan controls in the BIOS.  They slow down the system fans automatically to make the system quieter, but they make my games crash occasionally.

I won't guarantee that will help, but it sure did for me.

, just to keep this a bit updated. meanwhile i tried a lot of stuff and i am deeply frustrated.

here we go:

- the last hint with the cpu fan does not work. thank you anyway.

- i installed the latest updates (ati/realtek). and yes i've deinstalled previously the old drivers.

- i did ram tests (memtest; windows diagnostic tools). everything works properly...

- i tried some stress-tests/tools. everything works well...

- i really don't know what all this mess is caused by. i never had such deep driver problems in my life before.

- i played a while with /nosound without any BSOD, but to be sure that this is game/sound/timing related problem i need several more hours/days.

- i already installed a new HD with WinXP Prof. (X86). But i've not that much spare for testing at the moment. i will keep you updated, be sure....

 

now i've the following things in mind:

- should i switch over to nvidia? some friends always warned me about the ati stuff.

- should i switch the ram (recent: kingston hyperx 4GB) even when it's obvisously working good?

Well, wasn't referring to the CPU fan actually.  There can be controls to automatically slow down the other fans which keep cool air in the case.  That can make your vidcard or other components overheat from not getting enough cool air.  Dust accumulation inside the system/CPU/vidcardfan/power supply can do the same, if you've got a canned air duster handy they can help a lot.

Switching to an NVidia card might help, but not because its an NVidia card...just because its a different card period.  ATI makes wonderful cards.

If XP actually helps, it's mainly because it uses less resources and different drivers.  In general it's less stable unless you've got hardware that doesn't take well to being stressed.

Installing drivers from intel.com might help your sys.  Opening this in IE will get you to the update checker. http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm

thank you for your reply.

after testing alot i figured out that the main problem was caused by the asus board.

i never had some issues like this before and it's really not easy to figure out what was the origin.

when running dual channel mode the system runs instable and causing different bsod's.

only when gaming (demigod, supreme commander, forged alliance, supreme commander 2).everything else is working fine.

so when i use only 1 ram stick running single channel everything is stable. even manual bios settings, what was recommended by the asus support, doesn't help.

well, i will exchange the board and i hope everything will work afterwards.
