StarCraft II beta is out!!

StarCraft II beta is out!!

OMG it finally happened!

http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/news/?d=2010-2#171100

The second coming is upon us! The PCgaming world will never be the same again! :(O

Music is good. Nice and relaxed. Sound effects are good (voices are really good!)

Gameplay is fast and furios and combatmicromanagement is rewarded so nothing for slowheads. Every race have a unique macromanagement mechanic that gives benefits if used (and is necessary for keeping up with a good player.)

Here's a stream: http://www.livestream.com/jobbies/video?clipId=pla_d3b54ec8-0b46-4706-925b-78a1216aab86

The graphics are better then what's shown in the stream (thank GOD for that!)

Zerg Hatcery and 2 Refineries

Closeup of Hydralisk in Zerg base

Zerg Spire morphing

There are a some screenshots over at http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft2/blogs/1656

I'd like to see a comparison between the online population of Sins before and after the StarCraft II beta was available :P

Turtling strategies really do need to be buffed in games. I'm sick of games that always reward the aggressive players. But, yes, bad players are the ones who tend to play single player

I'm on as draginol.draginol if anyone wants to friend me on battle.net.

Why do i have a feeling i saw Frogboy over at Battle.net forums? Of course i could've mixed up his SC2 name with someone else. (Reading the forums somewhat, not really writing anything. And cursing the region locked forums)

Overall SC2 feels pretty good but... it's pretty much about massing armies. Can't find much use for casters, HT is pretty useless, since Psi Storm has so small area in SC2. I think it's smaller than in SC, at least, not to mention nerfed damage (112pts->80pts over time) Casters are too small, battles too fast (fast is good speed, faster's too fast) to have time to select the caster... Yeah, i know, TAB cycles beetween unit types (a la WC3) but since armies don't move at the speed of the slowest unit, casters tend to get left behind.

Phoenix and Stalker don't feel poweful or anything.. just a tiny bit more damage for them please.

Musics are good, though Protoss need more music (they've got one track ATM).

All matches lag. Are the Beta servers located in NA only? That might explain the lag, WC3 doesn't lag, nor do any other games i have.

Windowed mode, do you use it? I play SCII, Demigod, and Robot Unicorn Attack simulatenously while picking my nose.

Actually, I think I was reffering to the fact that, currently, some of us can't play StarCraft II.

A. Yes. StarCraft II does require an online connection and you must login the first time you play. We are in the middle of adding an “Offline” feature which allows you to play the Campaign offline if you, for example, are traveling and want to play on a laptop. Playing while connected allows your progress in the campaign to be saved online to your account. This means if you switch to a different computer to play you can pick up from where you were.

Look what I just found. It looks like an offline single player WILL be available after all.

Can't find much use for casters,

You just need like 5 high templars using storm now. They're not that expensive. Archons DEFINITELY need a buff, as of now there is no reason to combine them.

The Terran Raven is a great caster unit with PDD, turrets, and Hunter Seeker Missile. The missile will kill hydras in a pretty damn large area.

I lack micro and multitaskin needed for casters. True, you can switch beetween the unit types but that's "unstarcraft-like" so i forget it. More practice *shrug* And yes, Archons need to be made useful... and i wouldn't mind Psi Storm getting a buff too.

Haven't found any real bugs (that haven't been reported yet)... very stable, veru well optimized game. And looks good too, with low-med settings.

Hour's worth of vids? No thanks, watching* 2 minute vid is hard enough already . I belive it can be useful, actually i did use it for a good effect (note that i'm bronze/copper player really, and i certaintly don't aspire to getting higher). Just that there ain't much AOE in SC but very large armies... Though i'd say the lack of AOE is not the cause. There was some post how AOE is nerfed and reduced in SC2 compared to SC.

*watching something is too passive for me, can't concentrate.

I switched from Protoss to Zerg since i got bored to using Carriers, which are OP ATM. But i wonder what's a good build order for Zerg? And how can i make good use of infestors? People are saying they're useful, if you use them but no one tells how or when o.O

Yeah yeah, i know, i should try things on my own...

Vandenburg, why didn't PredY build any bunkers?  Did Blizzard remove bunkers from the Terrans or something?

I gotta say after playing this, IT IS A 10 YEAR OLD GAME WITH PRETTY GFX.

Beta or not, its nothing new, just more of the same from a decade ago.

RTS has come a long way in 10 years, Starcraft 2 has none of RTS advancements, and many of its older faults.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by the cover system of Relics Recent RTSs.  o_O

If you have no friends, I'm willing to be one.

Checked out that hour long game.  Gave a lot of insight into what it's gona be like...though I could have done without the announcer...

Anyway, I esspecially like the increase in selectable units.  (24, is it?)  And the combining of Medics and Dropships.

In SC2, you can select 255 units at a time... answered a couple of years ago. However, the UI shows only some 24 units at time, though there are pages on left side of the unit wireframes...

Too bad none of my friends are in the SC2 beta!  :D

255 units?  So is that the supply cap then?

-Twilight Storm

200 still but zerglings you get 2 for 1.

Sweet, they stuck with the orriginal settings then, in that respect.  Gotta love zerglings...

I noticed the medivac had 4 dashes above it.  Does that mean it can only carry 4 infantry now?  (Or one Tank?)

that would be showing the ammount of units in it, marines take 1 so you can fit 8 and Marauders or whatever take 2, it still takes 8 Marines same as always.

Okay.  It must stack 2 sets then, because I saw 4 marks above one going all the way across.  Good to know.

Anyone willing to give a poor betaless soul a key? :(

could get the pirated demo where you only can play ai kinda lame since the ai is dumb as all hell.

How long is this game going to be in beta?  I want my Starcraft 2.

What i really want is the phantome project of Blizzard.  That which they have repeatedly teased us with since Starcraft originally came out.

Yes, I mentioned it:  Starcraft Ghost!

Sadly, I believe they have permanently put this on the back-burner...

Well I've looked around and decided getting a launcher probably wasn't worth the chance of a virus
