Besides the articles you are referring me to refer to the Worlds in terms of how the term was used during the Cold War. In this case this refers to allegiance to Capitalism more than what it refers to now.

Altaux, USA is a 1st world nation without a doubt. Being so developed, importing/exporting goods from/to all over the world, having such military power, and more importantly having generally the highest standards in the way people live their lives, makes it so.

Saying that its a 3rd world country though, makes a good  joke to tell.
