How to defend a planet?

I am playing Dread Lords.

What I have done so far is to put a planetary defense on a planet. But the AI just sends in wave after wave of transports until they ware me down and take my world.

What can I do to make a planet difficult to invade. I was hoping that I can put up defenses that can kill incoming transports and enemy ships. Can a military space station help? What else can help.

I want to make a planet virtually impossible to invade and if they do invade, then it will be very expensive indeed.

In DA/TA a good soldiering/moral coupled with breeder will almost always do this trick, but in DL I don't know. I'd rather concentrate on strong and fast warships, attack is the best defense in this case.

If the incoming transports are unarmed and unescorted, a tiny, unarmed ship in orbit will keep a planet protected from invasion.

A Planetary Defense structure is best thought of as a backup defense.

Better still is to kill the transports en route with warships you have patrolling the general area. The AIs are not great at updating ship orders to reflect changed circumstances, so it is often possible to kill large numbers of invasion troops before their boots ever hit the ground--your attacker loses large both the population who signed up to fight and the cost of the transport ships.

If you can attack their transports they send over before it actually gets to your planet, that may be one way to head off attacks. I usually do throw one or up to a few ships in the space port to defend the planet, depending on how important it is to me.

A military starbase will certainly serve to supplement your forces (within its radius).

This is a duplicate thread. The OP has responded in the other one.
