People of Elemental: The Kingdoms

People of Elemental: The Kingdoms

The Kingdoms of the West are dominated by races of men. While of one species, each race is substantially different from one another in terms of culture, capability, and philosophy.

The Kingdoms tend to believe in power of individuals to set their own destinies.

The Kingdoms

K_Sorceress_F

The Kingdom of “New” Pariden (“Paridens”, sometimes called “Amarians”, sometimes derisively referred to as Ama’nir)[more]

K_Perridan_M
The Kingdom of Altar (They are the same race as the Paridens originally from the east. Sometimes called Usurper Amarians)

K_Warrior_F
The Kingdom of Capitar (“Capitarans”, sometimes called “The Diplomats”)

Gilden
The Kingdom of Gilden (“Ironeers”, sometimes called “Merchants of Iron and blood”)

K_Tarth_F
The Kingdom of Tarth (“Tarthans”, sometimes called the kingdom of something that would negatively affect our ESRB rating by Capitarans but more commonly referred to as the Rebels)

The ranger is depressed, the girl at the top is the LARPing cosplayer.

No, the girl at the top is a sovereign who is going to fling lightning at you from a tower if anybody calls her emo again.  #:(

That would be a very emo thing to do tbh.

Anyway silly emo girls aside, the heavy metal faction definately looks the best. Big storm hammers, sword and axes. Vast iron legions and impaling metal.

After all carnage rules the fields of death and such a true force of iron glory will never let the witches ride agian.

Now all they need to do is the invocation of the nameless ones and we are golden!

Iron ears indeed. (Points for refrences)

Do not mess with Procipinee...

"Do not mess with Procipinee..."

*Looks at picture*

I see.

However, I doubt I would be fighting with armys of what appear to be little paper men. That could be a fire hazard.

I'm glad that the Ironeers aren't just a complete dwarf clone. It looks like they are just as tall as the others, which I think is a good thing.

Then I certainly hope Lightning Rod is in the tech tree.    :S

Hey it's realistically feasible, it's lower tech.  Study ancient Japanese arcitechture (somewhat influenced by Chinese) and you'll see they built with very clever design tricks to resist earthquakes.

The problem with lightening rods is that they work by transferring electricty from the cloud to the ground along a safe conductive channel. In a fantasy world, it's unlikely that lightning (especially the magical sort) would behave in quite the same way: first, I see no reason why it would have to STAY on the path of least resistance all the way to the ground and not send some feelers out in other places, and second, there's no reason for metals to have the same relatively high electrical conductivity they do in our world.

Some vague feeling about what I've read so far of magic and cosmology for Elemental makes me think you're barking up the wrong tree here. Not that I don't appreciate the idea that called lightning might behave very differently from spontaneous lightning. But from a working dev POV, opting for 'realistic' pseudo-physics requires less effort than defining and applying a really interesting fictional metaphysics.

I fear you might be correct. But that won't stop me from agitating for the energy to go on a drunkard's path to Earth regardless of the electrical resistance of the chosen medium.....

Cool art but i cannot really get a sense of the flavor of these nations.  Not that I am looking for steroetypical knock-offs , e.g. the traditional Desert Nomad, Northern Barbarian, Eastern Imperial, etc, but I do hope the nations have some flavor  aka soul that make each of them distinct.

Not trying to be negative, just really want this to be an epic game so hopeful the nations ultimately have the flavor that made titles like MOO2 or Dominions great.

Cheers

I got annoyed when playing Populous aka the god games.  How could those sims have another super mega disaster every 60 secs or less and still not adapt technology to deal with it?  That army reeling from Procipinee's shock and awe campaign is another example.  "Doh!"  or  "How many times can we keep doing this?"

Edit: Frogboy has my permission to use the shock and awe as an in game joke.

If someone/thing has the ability to call down lighting at will and direct it, then a lightning rod isn't going to help you. Lightning rods work by providing the lightning with a preferred path than it would otherwise take (namely, blasting your house apart). Being able to call down lightning to a specific place implies the ability to direct it along the path you want it to take, regardless of the path it would naturally naturally.

My point is, when faced with something like magic or godly powers, it really isn't difficult to come up with good reasons why technology wouldn't be very effective.

Actually the Capitar remind me of the Bannor. Very passionate (European Romanticism), and Very focused on Laws and Ettiquite.

Basically they would act in ways similar to Frederick the Great of Germany combined with Richard the Lionheart. Their first course of action is "marry your daugher to my son", their second action is "sign this paper to become my Vassal ... I mean ally" ... and to their enemys (and any rebels) they send masses of young people on a Calculated Crusade.

Basically kings of "Diplomacy" but certainly not weak. Probably prefer keeping their own people on a short leash of harsh Legalism and Aristocracy, and Prefer to send in Hoards of Mobs as opposed to small groups of elites. Official Crusaders of the State would be their heroes, most likely.

any invididual Hero would likely be akin to Dante Alighieri, Donal Lugh, or Suzaku ... the fearless "invincible hero" that combines brainless devotion with Amazing tactical skill to become a Demagogue to the people ... even if they lack proper strategic intelligence. Thats for "other" people like Zero, Virgil, Capria, or the Sovereign. I mention Dante merely b/c he was a crusader ... however Donal Lugh and Suzaku are less well known but greater character analysis. Great Loyalty and Devotion, willingness to sacrifice themselves, serve as a Demagogue to recruit scores of more candidates for the meat-grinder, or the political machine. Also can be lavished by the Government, while loved by the people, in order to quell a dissenting populace because they just lavished the Hero of the People. Kind of like a Western Imperial Guard?
