Campaign, anyone?

SINS has an epic backstory. Could we see more?

SINS got me intruiged, but when I started it, I was a little disapointed. A lot of work went into the story of the game, and the trailers only add to it. Yet, when you go to play, all you get is something like a deathmatch from Age of Empires.

I love the game, but I can't help but feel that after all the work that went into the story behind the game, it's a little odd that it is nothing more than a backdrop in the game proper.

So, stardock, how about an update that is more than a bunch of map packs? You have a fanbase for the story behind Sins, maybe you could focus on that, too.

Stardock didn't make Sins, Ironclad did, Stardock is a publishing company.

Even still Ironclad is a startup company with only 1 release under their belt (expansions don't count to title count). Quest requires a larger mechanism, I mean even though sins is pretty extensive, the programming challenges along with creating a quest story line would probably have delayed sins launch by at least another half a year let alone the expansions.

Campaigns (at least good campaigns) are mostly made by companies who have more experience and have much larger resource that they can deticiate to programming and creating a story line.

Even if they do release the campaign, they got to have faster research, faster resources mining, and faster ships to make it really feastable.

What do you think a campaign would add to the game other than cheesy cutscenes and a hackneyed story?  If you want some good science fiction stories, I recommend space movies and sci-fi novels.

The game is about what the game is about--expanding your empire, making the right investments, putting together a good fleet, managing battles, and making good decisions.  I really don't see how a campaign would add to the game play.  If you want you could play through each map sequentially and then download custom maps and mods.  (If you get really bored with the AI and can mop it up, you could also try the game in online multiplayer, playing humans v. AI comp stomps and also against human opponents.)

All that having been said, I agree that it would be nice if the game had a campaign simply because many people have requested it.  I guess the easy way to do it would be to brainstorm a silly story and then have cheesy cutscenes interspersed with a sequential playing of the standard maps.  Winning the battle on such and such a map would be made to tie into the story somehow.

You just make up your own stories...make maps and such that tie together. I what I suggest. Its much more personal and honestly better.

I suspect a campaign of some sorts will be in the next expansion/sequel or whatever will come after Diplomacy. Keep in mind that this game was a surprise hit, so it is really not that surprising that it so far hasn't had one. But now that Ironclad has some experience and more importantly a very sucsessful commercial record, I think they'll start to upscale their ambitions.

While I can see how a campaign would both take and add to the game, I still think it's a good idea. And you can set limits in campaign, and start off with certain tech's to reduce the amount of time required.

I would enjoy a campaign to the main game, an official one mind you, but I have to agree with -Ue_Carbon, each game is sorta like a campaign.  One could imagine a sequence of events around each one, make up historical events, heroes, villains, et cetera.  Like the old saying goes, "Just use your imagination.".

Just so you know the Devs said they want to do an campaign, but refuse to do it in the current typical RTS fashion. I figure when they find a way to do it the way they imagine we will get one. Love to see some of the backstory explained better, but Im still advocating your own stories. For example we have created our own Role Play set withing a mod for SINS. We are working a map and everything. I dont think we will actually play it ingame anytime soon but we have an awesome set of writters! If your like to do alot of reading, come on over and read what we got.... HERE!
