Downloading mods, can anyone help me figure out how to do it

hello, im new to this game and have downloaded a mod but have no idea what to do with it.

my downloading path is different than everyone else because I bought soase via impulse so it goes C Drive- Programs -stardock games- sins of a solar empire but after that there is no modding file, I think there may be a couple reasons why I cant play mods

1.no modding file, tried to make one called Mods v1.181, didn't work

2. because I have windows 7

3. because I downloaded from impulse

4. I cannot download the net 2.0 program said need for making mods, Is it needed to play mods?

5. I'm on a 64 bit machine

I am currently on  soase vanilla version 1.181 and have only downloaded 1.181 compattible mods

to anyone who can help me towards the right direction it would be great

Good news, you are just not putting them in the right place. Strangely, the mod folder is not located in the regular Sins of a Solar Empire folder (where the .exe is), but in a section of the app data folder. It should be something like this (note that a couple of these are hidden folders, and I'm using Vista though I'm told they are about the same).

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire

If for some reason that doesn't help, in game go to the mod options menu from the menu options at the start screen and hit the "Show Mod Path".

i am using win7 64 bit myself

copy the mod into the folder:

c:\user\yourname\AppData\local\ironcladgames\sinsofasolarempire\mods-entrenchment v.xxx  (if you use vanilla  the last name should be different)

if there is no mod folder first start sins go into options -> mods -> create folder

after copying the files into the folder start sins again select the mod and press enable

you may also want to check the box enable mod at start

cheers

edit: too late

Thanks for trying to help but...

I looked for your suggested path, but it does not exsist on my computer i believe that because of me downloading the game online it follows C Drive- Programs -stardock games- sins of a solar empire, this is the path I have used to install my galaxy games that i've made with no problem. So is this the right place to place mods?

Probably not, and I downloaded my game online too, and besides it should make no difference. What folders do you see in that Sins of a Solar Empire folder?

empyre have you created the folder with sins as i have written?

you can also go into sins and let it locate the folder for you

you are in the wrong folder you may need to turn on hidden folders with your windows explorer

appdata is a hidden folder

c:\user\yourname\AppData\local\ironcladgames\sinsofasolarempire\mods v-1.181

I'm sorry for the inconvinience

i used the controlpanel folderview/ view/ set it to show hidden folders than went to computer/users/(myname) and there was no folder called appdata although there was such folders as my documents, my music etc. Am I still looking in the wrong place?

that is strange indeed there should be a hidden appdata folder

(in the folder with my documents, my music ect.)

can you post a screenshot of this folder?

did you try to search for the folder, try searching for 'mods v-1.181' folder

are you sure you set it to see hidden folders?

if this folder does not exist i am bit lost to be honest. it should exist because it also includes your temporary folders (like internet pages and other programs)

thom1234, assuming you have sins 1.191/entrenchment 1.051/diplomacy 1.01,  the Mods NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.191
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.051
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.011

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.191
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.051
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.011

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

NOTE 2 the 'user name' in the above paths is your WINDOWS login user name, eg Administrator

and if the mod you want to use is from an EARLIER sins/entrenchment version place the mod in the mods folder FOR THAT version eg mods-entrenchment v1.03, then download and run my mods updater from the latest version archive which will have the same number as the vanilla sins version number, and AFTER updating the mod(s) to the current version for any mods of pre 1.04 entrenchment ALSO run the manifest maker on ENTITY manifests on EACH of the mods EXCEPT for total conversion mods

thon1234,

placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.191
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.051
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.011

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.191
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.051
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.011

NOTE 2 the 'user name' in the above paths is your WINDOWS login user name, eg Administrator.

do not waste time and effort looking in other user folders like all users etc as the folders will definitly NOT be there

if sins then it is approximatly a year and a half old, if entrenchment it is about one and half months old.

the current versions are sins of a solar empire 1.191, entrenchment 1.051 and diplomacy 1.011 with the patch from last week
